Might be kinda like Thomas turning off us due to injury 'management' too? :p
From what I gathered, it was him and the rest of his family. Getting more and more pessimistic about him. I don't think we got a player where we should pin our long term hopes on. Hopefully he can prove us wrong and vice versa.

Also in the PM was some bad character traits about Freeman. At Hailebury, he was always the best player in his year and at school his nickname was FIGJAM. He has entitlement issues.

He would be seeing big contracts offered and that would play on him and his entitlement issues. It was a mistake recruiting him, Hine misread his character or lack of it.

You really need to pull back a bit on your character assassination agenda. It is becoming VERY tiresome. This kid has been through hell in the last two years and deserves a tad more compassion.

Couldn't agree more.

While I agree that we shouldn't be making character assassinations of him, it is very disappointing there appears to be a standoff between the the two sides. Freeman was put into mothballs over a month ago which has given him plenty of time to make up his mind about his future. I would have thought he had a lot to prove to the club that he could play and would be jumping out of his skin to sign a new contract. So it can't be an issue about money. If it is a case of insecurity about whether he can hold onto a place in the team, the best way of proving it is by busting his guts out on the training track to prepare for next season. If his attitude is wanting to play for a bottom of the ladder team, where he can coast away in the midfield without competition for his spot, then I would prefer that we cut our losses and get the best deal we can for him.

I find it amazing that two players, Shazz and Freeman have dominated discussion over the last few weeks. Surely there are so many more positive things to discuss

If we could get saints 2nd rounder for freeman I'd be happy to let him go, I just can't see him getting back to his junior footy level with the chronic hamstring issues he's had and I'd say will continue to have throughout his career.
A pick 20-23 would be a win for us

I'd say gone.

I've known Nathan for awhile and reckon if he was inclined to stay he would have given me something positive like "we're working on it" or "hopefully staying".
Of course there's that forthcoming talk with Bucks so all is not lost yet.

Ah ok so you know him. Was wondering why he would divulge all this stuff to a random fan.

Thanks for all the info :thumbsu:

Worrying that there might not be an opening is an extraordinary attitude from a top 10 draft pick. How about work your ass off to force your way into the team, mate?

Spot on. I can't understand the attitude that he lacks the self belief to back himself in to be a best 22 player even if we were to bring in Treloar and Aish (highly unlikely IMO)

I'd want a swap of first rounders and a second. We still get royally screwed with this trade. Will be a gun.

Because they are part of our future, and as fans we want hope
And also because out of the top 10 picks of that year, they've played the fewest games. Personally I felt Bontempelli would be the best of the crop but I also thought Shazz wouldn't be far behind

Been reading the Saint board and it mentions that Freeman has turned off the Pies due to injury 'management'. Doesn't sound good.

Hmmm...and the Saints board consists of as many experts as the Pies board. It's the nature of of BigFooty....it's fun to speculate but the reality is we know very little

On the contrary, reality is that we know it . Every scenario and / or circumstance has been mentioned by someone with 'inside' knowledge. A lot of broken clocks who get something right eventually but also some with genuine info. Just a matter of filtering out the truth from the noise. But the truth is out there ;)

Freeman is a bit like Kennedy, except it seems he has shot himself rather than somebody else.

If he was indeed mismanaged in terms of injury and the club is only offering a one year contract because of injury concerns, he's got every right to be furious and leave - I would.

Then again that is two very big ifs.

I hope that is not the case. otherwise there is a player called Cyril Rioli who should have walked away from Hawthorn given the amount of hamstrings that he has had. the bottom line is some players are just prone to injury, and I have no Doubt that Collingwood has consulted externally which would most likely be the same consultants that St.Kilda would engage in.

It would be bad if we trade him and he turns out to be like Dangerfield. I'm unsure what to do.
Come now, when in doubt dont you usually go with whats worst for Collingwod? ;)

Actually considering he is probably both the fastest and one of the best endurance runners he obviously enjoys that sort of thing...

I don't get the hate for a guy having a few lagers.
Theres a few wowsers on here
Imagine them in the days of the 6 oclock swill

So, a guy who was picked at number 10 who is yet to play a game of AFL who has terrible hamstrings is going to be a gun. That's probably why every AFL club except the lowly saints have an interest in him.
