We offered pick 30 and Wellingham for him. Hardly unreasonable. Not our fault Ross Lyon is a dickhead. That trade could well have won them the grand final in 2010 if they'd accepted it.
No the deal we were trying to get done was to swap Wellingham to North for pick 25 which we would then give to Saints for Ball. Saints ended up saying pick 25 wasn't good enough. We also had pick 30 in our hand but when they knocked back the 25 30 was never going to do it. Saints also enquires about Goldsack. I think Goldy plus 30 might have done it for them but not us

Can anyone else see the irony of us stressing all year that scharenberg was leaving for it to end up being freeman?
Yeah most of us were convinced Freeman would stay and Shaz would go.

Having said that, long term, Shaz is the one you would have wanted to keep, which most of us begrudgingly admitted at the time.

Oh he's holding off cause we've asked him too due to the minor shit storm Treloar's announcement created.

Freeman was adamant Aish is Pies bound and sighted this as one of the reasons why he could be leaving.

What other teams?
Fitness? He was easily one of the fittest blokes on our list. Fitness was never going to be an issue with him.
Not physical but in broader term match fitness. We played Reid for a number of games in VFL too didn't we before we let him loose on the park. So I guessed he probably would have started for 4 -5 rounds there and then see if he would demand selection.

Did you think we'd be jumping for joy?
Nah, I do understand where you guys are coming from, but at the end of the day when you recruit Treloar, you're going to have one of, if not the best young midfield in the league.

Looking at it Freeman's perspective, he's put most of his life so far into making it in the AFL. His career could be totally destroyed by his injuries, so it makes sense for him to take the best contract offer available to him.

Surely it's now just a three way trade where Aish goes to the Pies, Freeman to the Saints and then the Saints will have to satisfy Brisbane?

And to think Cripps was still on the board when we called this guy's name out! There are stilll no guarantees he comes good after the hammy injuries. Seems a fair risk to take by the Saints for a guy who hasn't played a game yet.

Hes worth good coin if hes fullyfit
Worth it as we have him.
All he is doing is fielding offers and looking after himself - and that is the footy world today. Not much different really to Danger or Treloar etc.
Just the way it is.
Please, he dosnt own us anything save for considering our best offer, because lets be brutal and honest here, if we did medicals and his hammys were shot wed say thanks and goodluck.
Thats how it is.
Business and pleasure mixed into one.
From what I've seen of him at AFL level I disagree

I think most of us are accepting of that. But it's natural for supporters to be pissed when you've used Pick 10 on a kid you've supported through constant injury that could have been used on someone else.

It's fairly understandable. I mean, I'd be shocked if Saints supporters were jumping for joy if McCartin left.

Is there any other teams?
Interesting timing of this announcement. We recruited him at the time on the basis of Dangerfield like qualities when it came to burst speed clearance qualities.

Dangerfield will announce his intentions this afternoon. Trade radio went with him requesting a FA move back to Victoria. Will more than likely be the Cats but stranger things have happened. Lol. :p
