"We're very, very keen for Freo (Freeman) to play and I'm sure he is, he hasn't played at all," Balme told SEN's Kevin Bartlett.

"He's a top ten draft pick but did his hammy and hasn't played a senior game in two years.

"One would expect he would have a responsibility to repay the support, but he may or may not we hope he does."

Balme said his character can't be questioned either.

"He's a good kid, it is tough on these blokes and people do have a choice in what they do with their lives.

"He's been contracted for two years, he's out of contract and he's entitled to do what he likes," Balme said.

Did KB say Freeman was off to Richmond?

At the time you wanted Lennon...no mention of Cripps.

Correct. I wanted Lennon. Had no idea who Cripps was. But then again, I'm not paid to do this stuff, otherwise, I'd assume I would have been aware of Cripps. Comparing my scouting ability with that of professionals is somewhat futile isn't it?

Even then, Lennon has played more games than Freeman and I still think would suit our side better, so I didn't do too bad.

I'm pretty sure that in the alternate dimension that KB's mind has him living in, all the other 760 or so AFL players in the competition are all plotting out a path to Richmond as we speak.

Just reading that, I hold little hope of retaining him. Their second rounder and a player? Probably best we could hope for.

Are you for real? Freeman has not been able to play. How on earth can they be compared?[/QUOT
.

From that perspective, fair enough, but I'd be shocked if Freeman had anywhere near the impact at Senior Level that Cripps has had

Remember when Berg was on SEN and he was asked about his contract and said 'it will sort itself out', and everyone said he was gone?

Good times.

That's just the point though. We can't make a comparison because there is no evidence at AFL level.

He didn't have Balme giving him a bake though.

True, but I'm still taking it all with a grain of salt until he actually says he wants out.

There is definitely something going on. My bet is he is gone.

Oh there's absolutely something going on, otherwise he would have signed an extension by now. He may well leave too, but as I said, he's not out the door until he requests a trade. As such, I try not to read between the lines too much in the media. Hence the Berg reference.

I doubt any other club is into him, it will be his manager trying to raise his price. Considering his past 2yrs his contract should still be base wage plus match payments and bonuses for games played.

I'm not even sure St Kilda would offer their 2nd rd pick, that's looking to be about 20.

So it'll be -

Daisy into Pick 10 (Freeman) into Pick 20 in a weak draft.

Fair to say he could become the most disliked former pie in a long time.

I think it's more a case of getting Berg signed and going through the EOS review process (including delistings) and then sitting down with Freeman. Losing Young's contract certainly helps with retaining them both I would suspect.

Hope he stays, we could use his burst of speed for sure but the club knows best. If they don't think he's worth the coin he's after that tells me there not 100% confident in his ability with those hammy's . Back the club fellas, Back the club

In fairness I go to a physio who was a physio at the Dogs for many years and also at the dons and still has great insight into the industry. We talked about Freeman and her understanding from physio mates in the industry that he was miss-managed in his first year(don't ask for specifics as I am not an expert) and she said that in all likelyhood he will continue to have hamstring problems for the rest of his career. This was late last year. She mentioned that it was quite well know in the industry that our players last year were pushed too hard.

Oh I'm pretty confident that the club didn't get it entirely right it's more that I'm similarly confident that Freeman could have applied himself better.

Therefore it just wouldn't sit well with me at all if that reason stated by Linda played out...

I think you'll find he takes his fitness pretty seriously no matter where he is, you don't find to many 19 year old's conditioned like he is.

Well I guess that comes down to what your definition of pretty seriously is. Mine would include non-drinking and another sneaky thing that's crept into the club!

FWIW his conditioning has little to do with his application.

I haven't heard Neil Balme's interview but reading it the language is different from Scharenberg prior to him signing. With Scharenberg it was "it will get done" and "we're confident" etc. Very confident language. With Freeman there was a lot of "we hope" along with a backhanded reminder about us sticking with him through injury. Doesn't sound very confident.

On the other hand if Freeman is out the door, it'd probably help us secure Aish (from a trade perspective, we still have to convince him to choose us). If we can get a second round plus something, we could probably package up the second round up with our own second rounder to satisfy the Lions.
