NUP: You are too generous and you are making calls before having any real evidence on some players such as Scharenberg and Broomhead. You also have to look at the quality we have got for the pick selection relative to others taken around the same mark before you decide if it's a hit or miss.

2012
18 Grundy - hit
19 Kennedy - uncertain but probably a miss - disappointing
20 Broomhead - uncertain but will only be an average player - a bit disappointing
38 Ramsay - uncertain
Overall I have to rate this drafting as disappointing given we had 3 late 1st rounders in a row
2013
6. Scharenberg - UNCERTAIN but not looking like he is worthy of a pick 6
10. Freeman - Big Miss
65 Langdon - massive Hit
77 Marsh - uncertain but looks like a big hit
Overall I have to rate this drafting as disappointing on available evidence; but only given we had 2 top 10 picks which happens how often??!! late picks were genius though!
2014
5. DeGoey - Hit
9. Moore - uncertain but looks like a big hit
30. Maynard - uncertain but looks like a hit
48. Goodyear - uncertain
Overall uncertain but early doors looks to be our best draft of the 3.

Hine's later picks read much better than the earlier ones especially when you consider other players we could have taken.

Hine does seem to have an uncanny knack of finding diamonds in the rough with latish picks.

I might have been a bit generous on Ramsay and Broomhead but am confident Scharenberg will prove his worth, well and truly. Broomhead reminds me so much of Sidebottom - I'd love to see him after a full pre-season and stringing a dozen consecutive AFL games together.

On the track yep. Off the track not so much.
Off track???

In his time away from the Club all he does is runs and runs and runs and then runs some more.

Langdon and Marsh make the 2013 draft a big success. If the 2013 draft was redone now, both would be taken 30-40 places higher than we got each of them for.
Easily for Langdon - All Australian Under 22 in his first two years of football. Absolute gem. Would command first round and considering he was taken in his second draft year he was essentially picked around the 200 mark.

Could say you where Harsh on Moore,Maynard and Marsh

Obviously, you would want Pick 24 (which will probably be Pick 26 after Danger & Luenberger Compo's)

We would offer Pick 42 & One of Wright/Saunders/Curren/White or Lee (you're not gonna get Acres, Lonie, Sinclair etc)

The Deal will probably fall somewhere in the middle, i'd suspect.

I'd be shocked if we don't end up with your second pick.

http://www.sen.com.au/news/09-15/freeman-must-repay-the-faith-neil-balme

"We're very, very keen for Freo (Freeman) to play and I'm sure he is, he hasn't played at all," Balme told SEN's Kevin Bartlett.

"He's a top ten draft pick but did his hammy and hasn't played a senior game in two years.

"One would expect he would have a responsibility to repay the support, but he may or may not we hope he does."

Balme said his character can't be questioned either.

"He's a good kid, it is tough on these blokes and people do have a choice in what they do with their lives.

"He's been contracted for two years, he's out of contract and he's entitled to do what he likes," Balme said.

That sounds really, really gone.

If Freeman leaves I for one would be very disappointed. Letting him walk for a second round pick seems like we get short changed. However, I could overcome my disappointment if we got Aish as part of some swap of picks.

I saw Nathan a few weeks ago getting heavily intoxicated. This was straight after he strained his hamstring. Sent an email to the club and they were happy he was drinking whilst injured.

Was very disappointed a professional player was drinking heavily when injured. A sign of a person that isn't up to the standards of the AFL.

Sorry, but nothing in my post indicated Hine is horrible at what he does.

I was just shocked at how wrong they got THIS particular one.
Why be shocked, its the nature of recruiting. Look at a few names off the top of my head

Sam Mitchell, Dane Swan, Dean Cox, Aaron Sandilands, Luke Breust, Steve Johnston, etc etc etc

There are always plenty of stories that are much bigger misses than say Cripps at pick 13. Not sure why you would make an example on this occasion when there are so many others that are bigger misses going around.

Club disapointed in him and his manage but still think he will stay but will not alter the offer. I think we need to cut the kid some slack.

1. He probably is looking at it from the point of view of, 'if I had not got injured', sill but..............
2. He may feel the club has played a role in his injury predicament and that as such we should look after him
3. Maybe he is really worried that he will never be able to play to his potential and wants to make as much off what might be his last contract, as he can.

All understandable if you were in his shoes.

to be fair i reckon he has a right to be a bit upset. Club / staff have clearly had some involvement in what has happened. As has been said many times the club some /all of these players almost to break them. It was a ridiculous approach and its widely known and rejected in AFL circles.

In saying all that the club have clearly changed their approach and he should be encouraged by it. I mean 8 months ago he was the bloke out the front saying we kids have to step up etc so he shouldn't be changing his stripes that quickly should he?

I saw a fair bit of him as a junior and he has abundant talent we just need to get him on the park. I like him not only for his speed but his hunger at winning the footy. He is a shorter faster version of DeGoey in many ways. They are blokes who are well equipped to play well in finals.

If this bloke can fix his hammies he will be a gun. An identical mould and game style to paddy dangerfield, who could be an absolute gun. Wouldnt care if the pies paid overs to keep him cos the potential on him is limitless

His game style is nothing like Dangerfields. Way more of an outside player.

yeah defiently more outside but is more than capable of winning contested ball. Got a massive frame for a speedy onballer

Wow this is frightening.

As much as he is unproven at afl level, id hate to see him leave and become a gun which he will be. Pay a bit overs for him cos their is too much upside on him

Just listened on sen John Andersons trade talk, they apparently Interviewed Connors his manager a few days ago.
Connors reply was " He is not left the club , we are still in negotiation, but there is a lot of water that needs to go under the bridge"
That shows me there not even close to reaching even some middle ground. Unless Freeman has a change of heart.
We can just hope he does have a change of heart. Or else use him as part of the Treloar or Aish deal.
Anderson also said apart from stkilda other clubs most likely will show intetest.
Or in a worse worse case scenario try and get a first rounder from a Victorian club.
Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Happy to excuse a 19 year old getting boozed at a slightly inappropriate time, particularly one who's had the disappointments he has. Hopefully he knuckles down from here. Would be a massive shame to see him go for anything less than a high second rounder

Re Freeman - Out of contract, no games in two years, no exposed form on the VFL, dodgy hamstrings, massive drinking problems (if you believe whats posted here) and you want a second rounder - your dreaming ;).

Seriously though our second round pick will be 23/24, possibly a bit high given some of the above.

The shit? OK.

Saints supporters should stuff off unless they want to treat the situation with maturity and have something proper to say.

Piss off idiot, as if draw 'massive drinking problems' from the posts here.

I'd rather see him walk to Carlton through the PSD if your shit stain of a club isn't willing to cough up a second round pick in a weak draft.

Don't be so lenient on them Apex, we can't have them believing they're even that good.

Nathan Freeman does not have dodgy hamstrings at least not yet until he tears one again. He has injured one hamstring once. Mick39 he did not strain his hamstring this year. He wasn’t injured and he could have played on but he was having a little bit of trouble just getting fully comfortable with his hammy, it was giving him a little bit of trouble. The surgery this year found some scar tissue on the tendon that he injured last year that they fixed up. It was not an enormous amount, but enough and also they treated the nerves around the area and cleaned that up.

You seriously sent an email to the club about a young fella having a few beers? What a waste of time.

What would be Freeman's grievances against the club? Does he think they've mismanaged his injuries?

It sounds odd that a 19yo who has not played a game would want to up and leave, he must have reasons to be annoyed at the club.

But Balme's comments sound ominous.
