People can agree with your comment and still disagree with Mick39. They may in fact be two different issues for discussion.

What part of my post indicated something contrary to that? Mine was a general comment and to back Mick in nothing more nothing less...

The only POV that really flies in the wind is Jmacs because the sport should have moved on from that sought of behaviour (in-season) 15 years ago.

I don't mind drinking myself. But the incident occurred directly after the Melbourne game.

The following Monday Neil Balme said in his injury report that Nathan had a setback and was back in the rehab group. Drinking when you are injured is unprofessional.

I am on your side also Mick......totally unprofessional behaviour. The body is a temple and all that stuff.

It makes what Scodog & Hine said about how diligent Scharenberg worked through his two setbacks even more impressive.

Chalk & Cheese player "attitudes" from two top ten picks.

Got no issues with a few quiet drinks myself, after all these guys are human.

But it boggles the mind why a club would sit back and allow a young player to hit the turps when hes under going a serious soft tissue injury.

I must admit Scodog, you do paint a very worrying picture of our sport science department and rehabilitation coordinators. I must admit, given my work in sport science and injuries I actually had my doubts for a few months now, but little snippets you give off make me wonder about the entire process within the club, and who if anyone is looking over it.

Or maybe Im just naive enough to think professional sporting clubs aren't as professional as I always thought they were. After all, I did choose not to work with athletes for this exact reason.

I could write a 10 page essay on my thoughts, but it's easier for me to say that your right my general feel towards that side of our club is dim.

How does it compare to other clubs, if you know?

Re Freeman - Out of contract, no games in two years, no exposed form on the VFL, dodgy hamstrings, massive drinking problems (if you believe whats posted here) and you want a second rounder - your dreaming ;).

Seriously though our second round pick will be 23/24, possibly a bit high given some of the above.

I bet you pay more.

North Melbourne apparently have an entire department dedicated to soft tissue injury prevention. Seems to have worked for Higgins.

Wasn't a challenge or disagreement with what you said.

I was making the point you can disagree with what he says and did but still be anti players drinking during the season. As such I was placing my posts on the matter within that context.

Regardless it is a boring exchange for everyone else so will leave the explanation at that.

Either way it goes, it's good - good boy for staying, or good riddance for going. Shame if he does go, as rated him, his best would have given us an element we're not overendowed with. Was a pretty severe way he did his hammy. One door closes, another opens. Will be p1ssed if we get unders for him. Don't know where Lennon sits with the Tigers but we'll have him if he's disgruntled & wants to leave.

I was referring more to the drinking culture side of it.

should we be drafting alcoholics like freeman? are there any sober young people anymore?... maybe an alcoholic is preferable to a drug addict...
He may well be both! Seems to be associated with speed all the time.

Saunders is the best man in the league for this. Nothing happens at North to the players without his blessing

Why haven't we poached him or someone like him? Our last four years have been abysmal in terms of soft tissue management.

Unfortunately I don't know for certain. I've only had the one reference point to other clubs and whilst it didn't paint us in a great light I won't run through us on that because I think the sport has a long way to go in relation to what constitutes professional conduct of players away from the club.

For instance Walsh at Adelaide wanted to instigate the same drinking ban that's in place at Port which is no drinking unless it's an 8 day break or greater. The playing group vetoed it lead by the captain and look which SA team made the finals.

Another example is that a couple of gun Geelong players from the 07-11 teams were alcoholics and the club even tried to get one to cut back only for his performance to suffer so it's all relative!

Getting back to where it all started from in this thread two years without a senior game, spent largely in the rehab room and then chasing $$'s? Yeah his management might want to justify him being mismanaged, but I just see it as more of a two way street.

Edit: North was the club I referenced so being behind the benchmark isn't such a bad thing.

Hah the written word is hard to portray so just to clarify I didn't take your post as either a challenge or disagreement.

Thanks for that, interesting.

Agree re Freeman. I've only seen Freeman in the TV match & I was less than impressed.
I'm not talking about pace, hardness, touch or anything you could excuse due to injury. It was his positioning in his ridiculous attempts to get "one twos" at a mark or in play.

If he wasn't the type of player we lack I'd be comfortable letting him go.

I bet you pay more.
You're not getting 5 and we can't pay anymore than 23/24 and even that's unlikely because apparently we need that for the Aish deal.

Don't you just love draft rumour time:):):). Every player you ever need is coming to your club (until reality strikes and Hawthorn and the Swans sign everyone!!!)

He's a very well paid employee that north Melbourne would do anything to keep. And it's understandable. All you have to do is look at waite and Higgins to see how exceptional their program is. Obviously wells is abit of an outlier

The club function I referred to earlier was attended by one player from North, Kane turner, he was blind drunk and this was only a few weeks from a final. Like it or not many players from all clubs drink in season. Personally if the perform and keep out of trouble I have no issue with it.

Is that so? Isnt 23 or 24 pick the saints second round selection.
Anderson said there will be other clubs interested.
Its simple economics supply and demand.
Will use him as part of the Treloar or Aish deal.

Agree. I think the Pies are looking at using him as part of some Aish trade and that's why they're refusing to budge on the new contract.

I don’t think Bucks be a Big Fan of Players Drinking During the Season or During Pre-Seaosn

I fork out a legends membership every year for my wife and myself. I expect the players to be diligent, professionals and ambassadors for the club.

Seeing a player recovering from a soft tissue injury by getting drunk and making a public fool of himself is something that grinds my gears.

Mate get a life. They're human not robots.
