1. IF elite junior talent was guaranteed to develop into elite AFL talent then you might have a valid point.
2. IF being 19 years old and unable to play a game of football for 2 years due to softy tissue injury was NOT a MASSIVE concern in terms of his future ability to have any sort of longish AFL career or indeed any sort at all, then you might have a valid point.
3. IF the guy realized that effectively he has given nothing back to the club for 2 years since being drafted (in terms of playing football) and that he can't expect any sort of significant contract improvement and IF he was showing a strong desire to remain loyal and repay the club.. then you might have a valid point.

I disagree. You do if you're not going to get fair value in return. We will get nothing more than a 3rd rounder in a trade (pick 40ish) in a nothing draft. Just give him his 200-250k and back him to become the player we thought he would be when we took him at pick 10. By keeping him we are not pushing someone else better out.

If Freeman can be elite without playing a game, then Relton Roberts must be on track for Footballer Of The Century.

You know what I meant, stop fishing for likes. We took him at pick 10, therefore we think he is an elite talent. Nothing has changed in terms of his footballing ability in the past 24 months, he just has not had the chance to show what he's got. Its not the 90's anymore, players come back from long term injuries better than ever.

You need to also look at Aish' 2014 stats on footywire, in a season where he clearly applied himself (and Brisbane had a lot more faith in him) far more. His kicking efficiency is far far far higher as is every other stat. It doesn't necessarily reflect well on Aish that his stats dropped so dramatically in his second season, but it's also not unheard of. Either way his first season is a far more accurate representation of what we can reflect and seeing as it was his first season he'll also improve upon it.

EDIT: As for Cripp's he's not a good kick of the footy but neither are players like Priddis or Fyfe. Clearly being able to kick the footy isn't so highly rated anymore as a necessity amongst all midfielders.

Also in the PM was some bad character traits about Freeman. At Hailebury, he was always the best player in his year and at school his nickname was FIGJAM. He has entitlement issues.

He would be seeing big contracts offered and that would play on him and his entitlement issues. It was a mistake recruiting him, Hine misread his character or lack of it.

I'm also surprised that a player would come out and say another youngster at the club is lucky to remain on the list and is only there because of his contract.... Seems unlikely that anyone would say that let alone someone in their second year trying to break into the side themselves.

Yeah you make a good point, unless of course we've never offered him a contract until recently and wanted to see whether we're close to landing these particular players or someone else prior to commencing talks with Nathan. His hammies would have had the Club concerned no doubt.
And now that we did he might be feeling he's being forced out a-la Dawes.
So while the monetary element might be at play too he might be taking it as an indication of a pecking order and a sign of not very bright prospects with us.
That's just my musings, not his words.

I asked him why did we delist Manteit but not Goodyear he said the reason was one was on a rookie contract the other still had a year to run on his contract.
Hope this makes it a bit more likely for you..

The public indications from the club suggest otherwise.

Balme's comments were quite strong this week, and should assure us that we're pretty keen on retaining his services.

I find it hard to believe the only concerns he has are the ones he's told you. If the club is saying publicly how keen it is to keep Freeman and how highly regarded he is, surely they'd be saying that and more behind closed doors to him?

We're not - as usual for spectators on the outer - getting the full picture. We take what we get from the snippets of information that's drip fed to us, and if you place Freeman's words to you with what the club's been saying publicly, it doesn't align.

Did you ask him if we stuffed up his hammies and recovery, as some have been suggesting here?

I still believe we should be prepared to bend a little in order to keep Freeman.

His skill set is still needed and no reason why we can't land Aish and keep him.

Kennedy is really the one who is going to struggle breaking into the 22 with the addition of Treloar and the emergence of Freeman or obtaining of Aish.

I like him but if we could exchange him and perhaps a 3rd rd pick for a second rd pick it might be best for player and club.

I agree on Kennedy and the idea of trading him to get a 2nd round pick to use on Treloar etc. Let's cut our losses and trade if he has any currency.

I agree with what you said.
I was just surprised that he had the worst kicking efficiency this year in his position.
He is Obviously better than the figures suggest.
He'll fit right in with us if he stays on those figures.

The two reasons I can think of him leaving are money & because he feels we may have stuffed his injury management.

Unless he's a complete moron, he would know he has the skillset we are crying out for. In other words if he gets over his injury & playing good footy, there will be a spot.

Saying he's leaving because of a pecking order issue is a cop out as far as I'm concerned.
