What is up that we have high standards and those who can't keep up with it physically or mentally , is free to leave or stay in the VFL until a opportunity arises. If they are too high we will find out next year or so.
If it was as simple as we have high standards we would win a lot more games - unless we can't draft talent all of a sudden which would seem a stretch. Players leave if they aren't happy. Good clubs don't loose many good players. Hawks lost Buddy to the biggest contract in history to a club with more cap than they had. Dogs lost players and clearly had issues to which they responded. Essendon are losing players and have obvious issues. Brisbane is a club players don't want to be at (generalisation of course). Carlton are losing players because they are a rabble and have been for a decade.

On the other hand, we are doing everything right and players want out because of that. It just isn't feasible. The number and sustained trend is alarming. It was alarming last year and many said we'll see what happens. well now we've seen what happens and the same excuses and blaming of players continues from the punters.

Common practice in major sports leagues around the world.
But Freo's Dad said it's dodgy, and he was an elite schoolboy athlete so it muct be true!

Yet Hawthorn have lost more players than us to other clubs in recent times. Hmmm....

Maybe we need to employ a better sport psychologist to unsure the players have safe and happy in the environment theyre in. It wouldn't be hard to convince Freeman and his dad Collingwood will look after him in years to come.

Yeah there is something up and that's Freeman's price. What's also up are his chances to play in the midfield at the Saints.
I can understand money being a factor but all he needs is some reassurance he will be well paid once he develops in fact better paid than he ever will be at the saints. Big picture.

I said good players but in any case I don't think it's true. they actually should be pushing a few out for salary cap and list maintenance reason given they are trying to maintain a premiership threatening list. I expect they'll have some turnover at the end of this year this.

Is there actually a number of walk outs that would have you question anything at all? Never mind top 5 B&F players and first round draft picks!

As if every talented kid is at his peak as soon as they get in the AFL. It is called development and we are behind that due to injuries of Freeman, Berg, Marsh for instance. We could have a full season in them by now. That is something we can look into. But to say that we are not winning and loss of players is proof things are not working , is stretching it. Players can't get a game on our terms and want to leave, that is a no brainer for me. A bit of tough love can't hurt for the generation.of entitlement.

Hawthorn have only really lost Buddy as it would have been unrealistic to match the 9 year deal. Geelong the same with Ablett.

Good clubs don't have a revolving door of players leaving the club they want to keep. Beams last year, Freeman this year. It's a pattern now.

So you are joining the dots...all 2 of them...

You mean the same Beams who wanted to go home to be with his $700,000 + dollars a year contract whoops I meant his dad.

"And they whirled and they twirled and they Tangoed, singing and jingling the jangles, floating like the heavens above....."
My favourites were Sweet Baby James and Millwork.

Was never a lover of heavy rock.... JT was always a bit too edgey for me. What is Millwork? Does it involve cuddly creatures?

Brilliant! Sydney have lost Malceski, Mumford and now Jetta looks set to go. Are they not a good club?!

The only pattern I can see starting to develop is the ridiculous posts you are putting forward

I'm prone to a bit of Buckley bashing, but we've only had Beams and now Freeman leave us during Bucks's time - the rest have been pushed. How you can call that a sustained alarming trend is beyond me.

I get that player movement is becoming more and more of a merry go round that has been enabled by free agency and the expansion clubs, with the corresponding end result of inflationary contracts that don't reflect a player's worth relative to age, displayed ability/exposed form and in comparison to established A graders.

However, let's not kid ourselves that there doesn't seem to be a bit more to Freeman's move below the surface and just like Beams before him, it doesn't quite pass the sniff test (for me anyway, but maybe I'm just too cynical). You want to chase the $$ then knock yourself out, got for it but don't hide behind a seemingly more "palatable or justifiable" reason as injury mismanagement or sick family member to provide a shield for actions largely based on monetary factors. Have the balls to be upfront on your decisions and accept whatever flak comes your way - everyone is entitled to look after number one, just don't be a complete flog going about it.

They would have sold him the big picture, TG but he was probably too concerned with the next 12 months. St Kilda took a fair leap of faith for 300 thousand and a guaranteed midfield spot.

The deal to Freeman would have eclipsed the St. Kilda offer if he reached the 12 game trigger (VFL or AFL).

So it's hard to say money is the reason he moved. The St. Kilda offer was more secure than the Collingwood one.

Same same. Three year vs two also gives him a greater chance to recover fully and fight for a contract renewal.

I find it hard to believe that a performance based contract is based on 12 VFL games.....assume per year?
