Nathan Fyfe vs Dustin Martin

Why did Fyfe drop so low in the draft, what were his flaws as a junior? Pretty strange evry club passed on him.
I don't follow juniors closely but I remember him being touted as a good medium forward type, I wonder how much midfield time he got as a junior. In only his second year at AFL he averages what 25+ touches, you'd think as a junior he would have been racking up 30+ most weeks.

His kicking is probably his only thing that isn't bordering elite at AFL level so that might have been the knock.

Yeah, his kicking needs work but I think the knock was his size. He was 186 cm and high 70 kgs in weight when drafted but is now 192 cm and low 90 kgs so that helps. In all honesty I think we just got seriously lucky...

Im going to have to eat my words on his height. Here he is with de Boer who is listed at 189cm and Fyfe is certainly taller.

But he was 73kg at the draft combine, and listed as 81kg at the start of this season. So if you're going to try and tell me he has put 10 kilos throughout the season... thats bigger than McPhee

Interesting to come back to in 5-6 years. Both look like dead set gunsin the making right now, but I'd take Fyfe everyday of the week & twice on Sundays at the moment.

Lol.

Yeah but you could have had Fyfe instead

It's all about needs though, even if we had known how good Fyfe might be we probably would of still looked at Griffiths. It's pretty obvious that our KP players bar Jack are lacking and it would of been stupid to keep taking mids/utility type players with all our good picks while our other areas were completely neglected. Certainly not saying Griffiths is or will be the better player but I am glad we drafted him because he has the potential to fill a big hole at CHF for us.

This thread is absolutely ridiculous.. The OP has used Martin in this "vs" argument for one simple reason, because he plays for "Richmond".. why compare him with Martin? what about the guys who finished higher than him, skully, trengove ? hmmm...

still so early, but id still bet my life that in the future Fyfe will be doing up Skully's, Trengove's and Martin's shoelaces... lol

I'm guessing OP is comparing Fyfe with Martin not because he plays for Richmond (no idea why that would be a reason anyway) but because arguably they're probably the best performing young guns in the comp right now.

tbh fyfe has has better consistancy, output, and potential than skully trengrove and martin. not saying there bad, there all going to be great players in the comp, just that fyfe's a freak.

No I used Martin because I couldn't split who was the best from te draft, Fyfe or Martin. Idiot.

Paranoid much?

Only if you are prepared to write off a 19 year old KPP who has had 2 shoulder recos, I for one am very excited about the prospect of having Griffiths in the Forward line along side Riewoldt/Vickery.
:thumbsu:
Took the words right out of my mouth. Far too early to be rating Ben Griffiths, as he has not been on the field enough to make any sort of judgement. If he can stay injury free for the rest of this year, get in a FULL pre-season and have a fair run with injury next year (which he has not had to date), then a call can be made.

He has all the tools to be a very very good forward.
