Nathan Grima retires

Absolute champion is Grima, classic Tassie bloke with those sly remarks. Wish him the best in life after footy, hope he pays off that mortgage ;)

Was very disrespectful to Andrew Gaze when appeared on The Bounce a few weeks ago.

What happened to this guy? Plenty of "long career in the media" comments in this thread, but he doesn't appear to be in the industry at all?

Pretty sure he’s playing coach of Strathmore in the EDFL.

As an aside, I’m pretty sure players get a pay out from the AFL if they retire from the game due to injury. What happens if they decide to play the sport again after a couple of years off?

really good bloke :thumbsu:

Ah ok. Anyone know why the media career never eventuated? Was he given an opportunity and found not to be up to it?
Was more interested in coaching and running his turf business.

Probably just didn't have the name recognition. They seem to prefer to give opportunities to blokes with storied careers and the personality of a marble countertop aka Richardson, Darcy.

Had a gig on the bounce lined up and an off field role at North all but guaranteed for 2016.
Instead got the tap on the shoulder by Essendon to play for them when their players got suspended for cheating and that sort of put a dampener on his media role.
By the end of 2016 both Foxtel and North had moved on so he went and coached Strathmore.

Should have never gone to Essendon IMO

This idea Luke Darcy was some great player is defaulted because he's on TV. He really wasn't. One hyped up season but what else? Hung around and played a few games but he was never dominant, a charismatic leader, or revolutionary in the ruck. *head and *in average player.

What do you really think of darcy though ?

Calling him an average player is a pretty ignorant comment. How many average players were voted by their fellow players as the MVP?

Scott Wynd retired in 2000, Darcy was an absolute gun from 2001 - 2005 as the number one ruck before doing his knee twice ended him.

He is a s**t commentator and isn't a superstar because his period of being a gun wasn't long enough, but calling him average is just wrong.

Standard silent alarm attempted edgy trollop.

Dane swan got clearance from the AFL to play a country footy game after the payment. Fairly sure the payment is because you are forced to retire from the AFL not from country footy

Didn't really follow the league much during his career due to being a small child, so I'll take your word for it - obviously still brought more name recognition to TV than someone like Grima though.

It doesn’t make sense to me why playing 1 year longer dried up all his media opportunities. If he seemed to be an obvious talent like everyone in this thread suggests, the role should’ve still been there for him.

Darcy did revolutionise the game, wasn't it his knee injuries that caused the ruck circle to be brought in? Will go down in history alongside Gary Rohan and Joel Bowden.

Strike whilst the irons hot I guess.
SEN had him on for regular chats also but then he went back into the system and sort of teetered out of the game without much fanfare.
