Pretty sure he’s playing coach of Strathmore in the EDFL.What happened to this guy? Plenty of "long career in the media" comments in this thread, but he doesn't appear to be in the industry at all?

Was more interested in coaching and running his turf business.Ah ok. Anyone know why the media career never eventuated? Was he given an opportunity and found not to be up to it?
I have wondered about this myself. He was always a likeable character who seemed (on the surface) keen to get into media work post footy.Ah ok. Anyone know why the media career never eventuated? Was he given an opportunity and found not to be up to it?

Had a gig on the bounce lined up and an off field role at North all but guaranteed for 2016.Ah ok. Anyone know why the media career never eventuated? Was he given an opportunity and found not to be up to it?
This idea Luke Darcy was some great player is defaulted because he's on TV. He really wasn't. One hyped up season but what else? Hung around and played a few games but he was never dominant, a charismatic leader, or revolutionary in the ruck. *head and *in average player.Probably just didn't have the name recognition. They seem to prefer to give opportunities to blokes with storied careers and the personality of a marble countertop aka Richardson, Darcy.

Calling him an average player is a pretty ignorant comment. How many average players were voted by their fellow players as the MVP?
Scott Wynd retired in 2000, Darcy was an absolute gun from 2001 - 2005 as the number one ruck before doing his knee twice ended him.
He is a s**t commentator and isn't a superstar because his period of being a gun wasn't long enough, but calling him average is just wrong.

As an aside, I’m pretty sure players get a pay out from the AFL if they retire from the game due to injury. What happens if they decide to play the sport again after a couple of years off?

Instead got the tap on the shoulder by Essendon to play for them when their players got suspended for cheating and that sort of put a dampener on his media role.
By the end of 2016 both Foxtel and North had moved on so he went and coached Strathmore.
Should have never gone to Essendon IMO

Strike whilst the irons hot I guess. It doesn’t make sense to me why playing 1 year longer dried up all his media opportunities. If he seemed to be an obvious talent like everyone in this thread suggests, the role should’ve still been there for him.
