Tattoos fade over time with sun exposure. Being a professional footballer Jones will spend a shitload of time in the sun, so it will end up fading. Also the more detail in a tattoo, the hard it is to recolour, so having it as dark as it is was the best decision.

It's an amazing piece of work and whoever did it is a great artist, but I've never been a fan of portraits. Anyone actually know where he got it? Edit: lol nm just saw it above. Tattoo Magic? Really? Heard bad experiences there, wouldn't walk through the doors.
