Head over the ball and beating your man in a contest. This is what you're good at. Do not do too much. You are an asset when you play to your strengths, please do not try run or kick at goal unless it's from a set shot.

Thankyou:thumbsu:

It's hilarious that most of his twitters every week are about his goal-kicking practice and how it'll be right for the weekend.

That 15m snap in the 1st term was dreadful. Tried to murder the ball when it just required a caress.

"Bartram class" Do you like Brent moloney?
Becasue thats who jones could potentially be. Both similar, try and break tackles, slow and slam it on there boot, but thats not a bad thing. melbourne need bug bodies for the time being.

Jones doesn't have the kicking action to be as good as Moloney, though incidentally Moloney really improved when he stopped slamming it on his boot and starting picking out players.

I quite like Jones, but agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread, needs to learn his limitations.

It might have just been me, but I thought I noticed a few times today when Jonesy took a mark and actually stepped back, took a deep breath and thought about his disposal, whereas in the past he would have played on, been gang tackled etc.
Be interesting to see if the trend continues.

Yer noticed that. He is still very young.

I'm a massive Jones fan, but it got to the point today that he was kicking on the run and i was verbalising 'oh no not him.'

His disposal worries me. Agree with the toughness at the ball though. We need that. He's better than anyone who could replace him.

And the 'give a young guy a go' line really means nothing, because as mentioned, Jonesy is young.

Give time.

Sorry to intrude, but Jones will hold Melbourne back.

Does not seem to know what to do when he gets the ball. Perhaps he has played in bad sides too long, but the Dees will be better when they can drop him back to Casey.

When will Sylvia be right ?

I've always loved Jones, he's hard at it and he comes off as a really passionate red and blue soldier.

But....

He tries to take everyone on no matter what! He thinks he can turn and evade like GAJ and cannot. I'm not saying he will never, I think eventually he could turn into a great solid mid but for now he needs to realize that he is a pick up and kick long type of player, like Stanton.

He has got potential. No point saying get rid of him. He is sticking at breaking tackles and is defientely getting better at side-stepping and creating a chian of handballs, which casue in scoring oppurtunities. Tell him not to break tackles, then whats the point of having a big body.

Agree with the OP:

He is an average to good in and under clearance player who has to do the dirty work, get the ball and dish it out to players like Davey...at this point in time i'd like to see him dropped because he isnt providing much to the team when he is trying to be a davey...he is getting caught too many times and his disposal has been poor

You and many wanted him dropped, how about now??????

The guy is one of may fav players, Love it when he gets a goal, always goes nuts!

He's also visibly a very passionate MFC player, he bleeeeeeds red and blue.

His kicking has improved dramatically in the last few games. That was really all that was holding him back, along with his tendancy to take on the tackle a few too many times. Now that he has improved those parts of his game, we are seeing the result.

Something has clicked with Nugget.

He isn't making as many bad decisions, he still works bloody hard and since he isn't turning it over as much he is becoming a very good midfielder.

It is great to see, you have to love the guys passion.

i have a feeling nate jones is gonna be a tj style player, ie does REALLY well when we do well. He could be our barometer in a couple of years.
