Traded Nathan Kreuger (SANFL) via Carlton to Geelong for Pick 42

He was overlooked in last years draft. What should we have gotten for ontrading him? Pick 11?

AFL specified we are allowed to trade these selections.

No pleasing you lot.
It's more how you've used it. Carlton want priority picks and the AFL has outlined a way to help your club, it's useless getting more 18yo which doesn't help your list. Now Carltons wasted a selection on pick 42.

Wait and see the trade period play out entirely before criticising a trade in the first day.

At least we aren't doing handshake deals to trade players for nothing like another team today!

Silvagni is a idiot, what a waste at a free hit at a mature body which they desperately need.
If they trade these mature guys for picks that they then on trade for Setterfield and McGovern then they haven't wasted them and are actually getting in more mature bodies than the state league guys!

A 19 year old skinny tall forward isn't going to help Carlton, and they can pick up some mature body midfield types in the rookie draft or delisted free agency.

If the AFL was desperate to make Carlton pick up mature bodies they would've given them 2 extra rookie list spots on players that had to be over 24. That's not what the AFL wanted.

So is this guy any good?

His numbers match up really well against first round draft picks taken last year that played in the VLF, SANFL and WAFL this year. Has huge upside and was very immature at the combine last year in interviews ect. The belief as I understand it was that clubs weren't sure he was mature enough to be on an AFL list from a character perspective. Not a blight on him just so shy and potentially may have struggled being away from friends and family. Talent is top top end despite his inconsistency with productivity from time to time. Great size at 196 for someone who was top ten in agility testing last year. That is very very elite movement for someone that size!

The whole reason our clubs were given these picks were so we could get in a few mature bodies to assist while our younger guys developed.

Carlton on trading these for more picks they'll just use on 18 year old's makes the compensation a complete waste of time.

Agree.

But also, if they trade out their first few picks for McGovern, Setterfield and possibly Shiel, they will still need to take three picks to the draft to meet the minimum drafting requirements.

So in a roundabout way it might actually be enabling them to bring in mature talent while still meeting their draft obligations.

Has it even occurred to you that Carlton could use that pick 42 towards acquiring a mature aged player from another AFL team or are you just virtue signalling for the sake of it?

Which veteran have they been linked to who can be had for 42? It may end up as steak knives in a McGovern or Setterfield trade, but I doubt Carlton needs that pick to make either trade happen anyway.

"veteran"??? WTF. Mature aged is 20 and over as far as this exercise is concerned. Where are you getting veteran from? They have several veterans already. Simpson, Murphy, Kreuzer, Daisy, Rowe. etc. They need players in their prime = 22-26 age bracket.

Veteran meaning someone who has actually been on an AFL list for a bit, unless you think other clubs are about to part with a recent draftee of any real value for pick 42.

So Geelong thinking Kreuger was possibly going to be drafted earlier than pick 42 then? Do any of the phantom drafts have him going late 2nd/early 3rd round?...might have been available at pick 60 or even rookie draft

The stupid thing is he might not have been available and it's not about where he would have been drafted it is about where you rate him and how much you are willing to risk missing out if you are really keen. There is so much concern about where people evaluate certain draftees but one thing we know for certain is Wells is a genius and even more so with mature agers.

Mature aged recruits and veterans are not the same thing. Mature aged just means older than the normal draft age of 18-19. It can be only a year older, like this Kreuger kid who could have been drafted last year. He is now a mature age recruit. Get it?

You do realize he was able to be drafted last season and EVERY club over looked him.

Also has not done much at state level to die for going by reports.

Smart move by SOS and this pick will be used whatever way we see fit regardless if opposition Internet supporters like it or not. ;)

The melting on here is awesome!

Of course, he may have got wind that an oppo club was going to pick him up with their second rounder so jumped early, kind of like Kelly last year and WCE missing out by 2 spots because Geel went early. Or he might just be jumping at shadows. We'll see. Looks promising though.

And Krueger wasn't on a other AFL club's list. You specifically stated players who are on other clubs' lists. How many of them are willing to take pick 42 and give up a 19-20 year old who they have presumably drafted recently, unless it was a very late selection or they've been unimpressive in training?

At pick 42 for a KP player in any draft you will always been taking a project player. Almost outside the top 15 KP players are all reasonble risks. I just love that he tested in the top ten for agilty at the national combine last year. It is the most important trait for KPP for mine. They all tend to have enough straight line speed otherwise they aren't even considered but to move that well at 196cm is a huge plus.

How dumb are people in this thread.

You do realise we could on trade pick 42 to help us get someone like McGovern, setterfield or Shiel if he nominated us right?
