.... No, this isn't another "Delisted player - should we..?" thread.

Just wanted to point out what a great trade we got for Abba back in 2005. Straight swap to Port for pick 14 (Grant Birchall)! Clubs definitely seem to watch what they trade their picks for since then.

Well done on your career Nathan - played 40 games for Port and more importantly 64 for the mighty Hawks.

But boy - I am very happy with our trades in 2005.

That was not the trade.
It was Hay for 14 and 18.
Lonie was contracted but we wanted to get rid of him so threw him to Port as part of the deal thus saving us salary cap space.

Port got Motlop and Lonie for Pick 14 and Pickett. Still a great deal for them as DANNY is awesome.

We got 14 and 18 essentially for Hay, but Lonie had to be thrown in so Kangaroos received a 2nd rounder (Riggio) from Melbourne who in turn got Byron.

Kangas gave up Picks 13 and 29. Wait for this.

Hurn and McKinley. OUCH!

Also gave up Motlop and they got Hay, McConnell and Riggio.

The Kangaroos are on the ball:thumbsu::eek:

Lol, no wonder the Kangas hate us so much. Only got themselves to blame for that mess regardless of how upfront we were about Hay's state of mind.

When you read about trade outcomes like that, it's no wonder clubs have become so scared to do anything in trade week!

Sorry to see it happen, but he was representative of an ugly era in our clubs history. Had height, fair talent, great raking left foot and a fair tap of pace, but just couldnt cut it. I found him to be a constant source of disappointment when at HFC. Saw him as being the the clint young mold (b4 clint was on the list of course..) running outside, and delivering long. Problem was, he was a one trick pony, and often just didnt have the sense to find the ball, and then would regularly miss the targets.

I was concerned that he fell off in form when his old man died, which was very tragic, as he was young etc. But he just never developed the carnt in him like, say, hodgey boy and was ultimately just too soft

Was having a chuckle the other day watching the great brawl with the scum in 2004,

and watching NL just skirting around the edge, offering advice......:eek:

My lasting memory of the Lonie brothers was their ranking in a Herald-Sun poll.
The question was a public (SMS) vote: "who are the toughest players at your club / in the league?"

Evidently a group of players got together and SMS the Lonie brothers names again and again until Ryan ended up winning the "toughest in the AFL" SMS poll.

Even the Herald-Sun saw the humour of the poll result at the time and suggested foul play.

Truly the softest, marshmellow brothers ever to play the game.

Sorry boys.

How funny! He seemed to be everywhere.......but just not doing all that much!:D

Both the Lonies had good, raking left feet, but they were soft as marshmellows and were never going to make it. They were both one way recievers and had no defensive game.

Once again people under estimate the role outside midfielder.

Thanks for your time at the club and hope you all the best in life after football.
No one underestimates the role, they slag the player. If he was such a great outside mid, he would still be playing, he wouldve played more, and he wouldnt have been a 2 club player.

We all rate outside mids, Bateman is an outside mid who can win the footy in a contested situation. Lonie was a dud, its not the role he played, he just wasnt good for anything but pot shots from 50.
