yeah hauritz has started flighting the ball much better. doherty is very very quick through the air.

A perfect example of Hauritz backing himself and flighting the ball is during the Champions League final for NSW. Pollard was starting to launch again as he had done to previously against NSW to win the game from nowhere.

Hauritz back into the attack ... this could be a turning over either way.
14.1
Hauritz to S Ganga, no run, tossed up and turns the ball away from off stump, Ganga goes for a big heave and misses, Smith collects and breaks the stumps but the verdict is not out
14.2
Hauritz to S Ganga, 1 run, skips out and flicks against the turn, going over midwicket's head
14.3
Hauritz to Pollard, (no ball) SIX, that is a big hit! Hauritz tosses it up, Pollard smites that way back over long-off, its a no-ball to boot!
14.3
Hauritz to Pollard, 1 run, goes back to leg stump and swings the ball with the turn, over midwicket and drops safe, Smith collects in the deep
14.4
Hauritz to S Ganga, OUT, and Ganga swings a full toss out to a sliding Henriques at deep midwicket!
S Ganga c Henriques b Hauritz 5 (7b 0x4 0x6) SR: 71.42
Six, free hit, wicket ... Hauritz won't mind because he's taken a wicket. Seven down.
14.5
Hauritz to Pollard, SIX, hell, that is a massive hit! Wow! Pollard just dismisses that into the third tier over long-on, murderous shot that
14.6
Hauritz to Pollard, OUT, and he's gone! Is that the match? Hauritz flights it up more, Pollard again goes for that big shot down the ground but mistimes it, its up in the air for some time and when it comes down its into Lee's calm palms in front of the ropes at long-on
KA Pollard c Lee b Hauritz 26 (15b 0x4 3x6) SR: 173.33
It indeed was the turning over. Expensive but two wickets. Massive blow for T&T

Maybe a touch harsh on hauritz, but there is still a lot of truth there. He doesnt flight the ball or turn it as much as i woul like a TEST MATCH spinner to

First ball there he turns it quite a bit. It's used as a surprise ball rather than a stock ball however.

Hell if i bowl a thousand balls i can get 1 to spin.

Yep. And If I had wheels I'd be a wagon.

You're kidding right? The guy has been turning it and giving it air. Blokes don't try to whack him out of the park because he is bowling darts.

before we start another hauritz bashing thread.

ok, he's not a world beater and he won't ever be. but he's reliable and he is the best we've got at the moment. there is a good bit talent coming through but none have yet stood up and said i'm gonna be you're the numbre 1 spinner....

and more than anything, the ashes wasn't the time to start experimenting with a spinner.....

Spot On

I know this boy will go all the way, his attitude is right, his skills are right and the stats speak for them self in grade cricket and Sate cricket. He has been let down by his team mates on several occassions with dropped catches and missed stumpings which is the game i suppose but should not reflect the talent this guy has! And as for the comment about he gets tonked in grade cricket and adelaide isnt sure about him, he has only played 3 or so games with the club that has been on the bottom of the ladder for the past few years and has shown that he and a few others can lead them to wins which is shown for games he has managed to play with them! He is well liked by adelaide and has had a great response from fans and the club!
Adelaide needs a great spinner and after the big bash and few games in sheild he gets wickets and his economy in every game is fantasic! he deserves his spot more than others!

The standard of catching in most teams seems pretty low these days. The WA bowlers suffer from the slips mediocrity regularly.

Lyon needs a couple of really solid seasons behind him. The Aussie test selectors (and the skipper) don't give spin bowlers the time of day so he'll need to be the finished product if he gets to that level.

The Brisbane test is the first chance I've had to see him properly. I originally thought he was a bit of a left-field selection like Beer. But he's been pretty good. Seems to be able to keep it reasonably tight, while still taking wickets. Though, he's had the benefit of bowling under Clarke, who is a much better captain of spinners than Punter.

I've noticed that both Boyce and Doherty have been bowling pretty well this season. And Holland and Beer haven't done too badly either. How does Lyon rate against some of these guys? Is he just a seat-warmer that got a bit lucky with a few wickets?

I think Lyon has done quite well considering how inexperienced he is. Has bowled very well here in Brisbane. I think some are overrating him at the moment however, the NZ batsmen have played some atrocious shots against him, but then again it is the same with Pattinson. Keep him going in the test side, if anyone wants his spot they are going to need to produce some consistently excellent results in Shield cricket - which is just what we need.

I rate Lyon more than Beer and Doherty, I hope they stick with him. Seems to have something and our spin stocks aren't much to write home about.

Lyon has been pretty good since he came in the team.

We've got to stop looking for Shane Warne and realise were looking for a support spinner. When we recognise that Lyon's shown an aptitude to learn the right lengths to bowl on different grounds to suit his spin. He's going to have the test gig through the summer and so he should.

NZ may be weak but Sri Lanka have some quality batsman when playing spin and he was great against them.

He is quite economical & hit for a 4 or 6 he's not panicky over it (if that make sense)

india is he make or break test no doubt

I like you post.. apart from the bold. I have no idea where you plucked that idea from.

happy with lyon.

Feel sorry for O'keefe but lyon doesn't deserve to be dropped. He's building up credits IMO.

Doherty is useless. First good look I've had at Lyon has been over the last few days and I do like what I see. Has some potential I hope they stick with him and let him develop.

Was great in one innings. Apart from that he was average - which is by no means terrible especially for someone so inexperienced at high level cricket.

This is the first time I have watched Lyon too - but I am really impressed. He has a lot of variety, is really thinking through what he is doing and it seems Clarke is giving him the fields to take advantage. He is clearly laerning with each game but I like the way he goes about it.

Doherty was just too 1-dimensional and Beer, well he rarely bowled a ball that would scare a batsmen.
