Was given the tough task of tagging Chad Cornes and he did it superbly. Cornes had 21 possessions, about 5 off the ground and about 5 in the defensive fifty and had no impact on the game.

VB had 13 himself but had 9 tackles. Did all the 1%’s as he always does.

GUN. :thumbsu:

Superstar, still i wouldn't expect Jarsmagic and feenix67 to stop bagging him after that:rolleyes:

They say some players get alot of 1%ers then VB must be the king of .5%ers:thumbsu:

Did a fantastic job on Cornes for mine. Cornes has been in unbelievable form and VB held him pretty well IMO. Conditions may have helped but it's in those conditions when you expect Cornes to come out and smash us and continually rub it in like the knob he is.

I thought he was fantastic! :thumbsu:

The great man has played on Chad once before and he did a reasonably good job for a half but then sort of stopped. However, tonight he was superb. Mind you Goodwin was on Chad for a while there and he drilled him a new one!

van Berlo played a ripper IMO in holding an in-form superstar in Chad Cornes to an average game with sheer effort, courage and persistence - he had to be an inspiration to his team-mates.

The one flaw in his game at the moment, which I'm sure will be tidied up, is his goal-shooting - misses easy shots.

Craigy gave him a great rap in his post match address and well he should have!! :thumbsu:

I never really bagged him, just queried him a little bit, but either way I was wrong. On a bigger stronger opponent in red hot form, Van Berlo was just outstanding. Brave, many 1%ers. A performance of an emerging star.

VB really took it up to C Cornes, who really struggled to get the cheap kicks he likes. Great to see a bit of niggle between the players too. He who laughs last...

I'm sure Chaddy would have started the game thinking is was the "Dream matchup"

Goodwin's form - out of the box

Keeping our season alive for another week - invaluable

The look on Chad's face after the game - priceless

The other side of the coin is Rob Shirley. Playing Rob allowed NC to target both Cornes and Burgoyne.

Good match day planning :thumbsu:
People continue to under-rate Shirley. He is what I would call an "ultimate role player" because he does what you ask and takes no backward step. He might have struggled a bit in the last couple of weeks leading into the Showdown but the games like last night are tailor made for players like Shirley.

Take him out of the side and you almost have a bunch of front runners who don't know how to get the hard ball consistently!

Exactly

I lost count the amount of times i saw Shirls at the bottom of the pack fighting to get the ball out. Does the hard yards. Not the prettiest player around, but gets the hard stuff done 90% of the time

I logged on wondering if I'd get a bake :p

Credit where it's due - he had a great game. And as per other comments/threads, isn't it great to support a team that, despite of injuries and form, always gives a 100% committment :thumbsu:

Don't worry about it, but surely you'd agree he's improved?

Think back to the PF last year where an admittedly drug cheating Ben Cousins ran VB off his feet and set up the win for the Weagles in the second half compared to last night where he effectively nullified the form player of the competition:thumbsu:

As he was good enough to do for us last year heading into the finals, will Rucci do a 4 page analysis of how to beat Port Powers game plan.

I can help him me out with one sentense - "limit the influence of K and C Cornes, S and P Burgoyne, and you win the game". Pretty simple really.

I don't think we will hear too many complaints about Craigies lack of match day coaching ability this week. Fantastic effor by the club.
