With the cotton wool being slowly removed, I would see him up forward and spelling the ruck occasionally.

And yes, it is time for the footy gods to give us an injury respite.....

Nah. he replaces PODS.
No doubt about it.

Anyone who thinks different is compromising purely based on size

You are kidding me right? Pods has had a very good year so far and Vardy has done nothing to suggest he can give us that output at this stage. All it would do is put more pressure on Hawk and ensure he gets double and triple teamed more.

The obvious role for Vardy is the one Blicavs is currently occupying, and he would be a significant upgrade there. Whether we want to risk his hip in the ruck would be the major consideration with that though.

Had a hand in 6 goals on the weekend. Played the perfect foil while Hawkins kicked 3, covered Harry while he went forward and kicked one himself. Not to mention to the contests he created.

Wrong context PO.
I'm talking going forward. I just dont think Vardy should be a ruck simply because he is tall.

I think Hawkins up forward, Vardy, Hmac and West will be the structure of the future. (well until Hmac snaps in half)

Oh yeah, I agree with that long term (i.e. once Pods retires).

I thought you were talking about when they bring him into the seniors halfway through this year. At that point he has to replace Blicavs (even if they don't want him rucking).

It's tricky, I dont know how he fits if Hmac, West, Pods, and Hawkins are all fit.
Unless you think they'd drop West. And I dont want to see that.

And I dont know how Blitz fits in that scenario either. Although he has improved massively he'd have to step up a level or 2 again to be considered as a luxury winger as some have suggested.

If they are all fit then it depends on form, I wouldn't really be worrying about it. I don't think Vardy has played enough in the last few years to displace Pods or West this year.

Blicavs will be in the VFL where he should be. I wouldn't expect him to be best 22 until 2015.

I dont know we have a best 22 anymore.....I think we have a best 25 that could play each week on merit - with about 4-8 more pressing serious claims with depth ....

Just a fortunate position to be in....

:thumbsu: It would be my great pleasure. But there need to be a few of provisos before I could join any such association. *initiate space-saving editor*
Dear applicant,

Considering your aversion toward fine bunny art, good team morale, and The Pontiff,.. a decision has been taken to suspend your current membership application, forthwith. We do however encourage you to adopt an interest in similar groups on other team boards.

FYI... The Maggies are currently accepting applications, in crayon - the Saints, attached to a schoolgirl - and the Bombers, in invisible ink [which must be injected into your pen in a somewhat sterile environment (dank apartment) across the road from your place of employment].

Wishing you luck in your future endeavours,

Signed :D

I agree with daz.

The best 22" should always have 3+ pushing for a place ,(25) playing well in the VFL , we will always have injured players that we consider good enough to be in the A's (+3/+6) but what to do when they are available. No best 22 but who would get picked if finals where tomorrow and every players was there to be picked. Im not convinced the MC or anyone at the club have a fixed idea of what names make up our best , most competitive , most dynamic team anymore. Depth is sort of a cursed blessing. We saw a couple of years ago , the kids lost their places to the names , probably to the teams detriment.

Depth in the club is at its deepest in the area of least spots in the team. ie its most obvious in the ruck area if all players where game ready.

Ballroom has probably thrown them for a loop. The run he brings us late in the game shouldn't be under estimated. He certainly has contributed to our strong second halves and to my eyes did more than I thought possible in handling himself against Pike and Mumford.

West's form has improved each week , and is a mature type being 25/26 and now having played 50 odd games.

Hmac if fit should be #1 , bar Blitz run , he bring's a know commodity

Simpson is the great unknown but if he was ready to play he would be pressing a strong case

So what does Vardy bring. What ever it is , its only in theory. He has hardly played so its hard to gauge. But a high end mobility mixed with talent gives us a Riewoldt type player. Can he run like Riewoldt? Probably not but Blitz can no doubt. But he has show more tall talent than most on our list. Its a conundrum.

Perhaps Pods could stay home in the forwardline more rather running deep to cover Taylor. Blitz would be a huge bonus as a player could clog a backline yet still run forward and present.

I just do not know , but if Vardy shows what we think he has , he will be in. Best 22 , I can't even get it down to best 25.

Dear Jewel Thief,

Thank you for your (rather late) response to my interest in your invitation (clearly insincere :p) to fellowship with TCPG.

I realise now I should have explored your groups ethos more closely, before being willing to entertain your invitation :)to membership.

I agree there appear to be incongruities between us, most notable a fragility in your organisations abilities to face reality, and more importantly a reluctance to entertain robust discussion that threatens your precarious/brittle faith in the Geelong Football Club. :D

In light of this, I fully understand the hasty and awkward withdrawal of your invitation of affiliation with TCPG.

I include for your general information a link to an article about the tyranny of positive thinking, and trust that as you read it you may be freed from the clutches of this burdensome mistress.

I look forward to further congenial discussion between us on other topics. :thumbsu:

Yours sincerely,

Disagree here PO. Vardy will be unlikely in the LT, to be used as a #2 ruck, He does not have the integrity in his hips, reading between the lines from what CS et al have suggested.
Blicavs may be a project player, but he so far has durability on his side. Who knows the future? Vardy would have to be groomed as a Pods replacement, if he ever makes it as an AFL senior player, and I'm not talking talent here. Vardy is in the Menzel category at present. A time-bomb. And we all hope this hip issue will be a bad memory, but again, time will tell. Ruck work would not be in his best interests at this stage if we can read the messages correctly. Maybe pinch hitting ruck work on the forward line only.

Has shown nothing to suggest he can replace Podsiadly at this point.

Nor is he likely to at any point this year.

I think Pods can play the role of the versatile big man good pace and marking power, especially with the likes of Essendon that like to play very tall.

Why the #### would we be moving our premiership, experienced forward around to force in a talented but injury prone youngster who has done nothing of note yet in seniors while trying to chase a flag?

Fair enough if people don't want him in the ruck but there is no spot for him up forward without an injury to Hawkins or Podsiadly and Vardy kicking some regular bags in the VFL prior.

Totally agree with you here.
I maintain if Vardy is to make it into our AFL team in the future, it would be to replace a retiring Pods, not a fit , robust Ballroom. Neither look imminent.
