Look, you may criticize how he went about it. But maybe he was given s**t roles because they weren't interested in him. Or maybe he is the type of personality who needs encouragment, and got none because his papers were stamped.
It might not be that he simply sulked.
I did not suggest he sulked, only that his form did not warrant selection. We can speculate on what we do not know, but we can observe a performance and make a judgement.
Whatever criticism there is of his final year, the point is he was very valuable to the WCE as they went about winning a premiership.
He was ok, only because of that mark and goal, 50 hit outs to Grundy would suggest that he was a long way from "very valuable", I am simply contesting the insinuation that it was a mistake to let him go.
McCarthy is about to go. Varcoe, Caddy. We are like a hospital who looks after the patient, and as soon as he gets better we send him off. lol
McCarthy has chosen to leave. Varcoe has not been any more valuable for the Pies than he was for us, and while Caddy has been good for the Tigers when they are playing well, he let them down badly when it counted, in the Semi, as he did many times for us.
Or maybe we just don't take our longterm injured players seriously.
All our injured players have been looked after until such time as it is considered untenable. Neither Vardy nor Varcoe were let go solely because of their constant injuries. The case of Menzel surely contradicts your statement.

People forget wce had Nic Nat, Petrie, well ahead of Petrie, let alone Lycett
We had Smith and Rhys, and he still chose to leave
And we rave on and on about buzza
Vardy read the writing on the wall, Mr Everywhere at the time including the ruck Mark Blicaves had gone past him,Mitch Clark was still on the list and we were hoping for big things from Smith or Stanley in the ruck.

It happens in any workplace. You lead 50-100 people, some will get on board and need little direction or explanation, some will take extra work, some will choose to not listen and believe they are right, and some are just not up for it and plodding along.

Different workplace, different message, different outcome. Varcoe has been more than solid in his time at Collingwood, I think they just made a better offer when he was up for grabs. Vardy has made the very most of a second chance and opportunity, good luck to him.

Bit of over-analysis paralysis in this thread.....just for something different on Bigfooty o_O:drunk:
Lol, an AFL club isn't just like any other workplace. Good on you if you want to believe that though.

But yeah, we get it. The GFC nor its head coach could have possibly mismanaged or not gotten the most out of any of its former or current players...

Most likely would be Varcoe at Collingwood

Not sure Brisbane will win the flag next year, though Linc will be hoping he can get a good run of things; while Thurlow, Menzel & Murdoch are yet to find new homes so can't comment on their likely chances

I forgot about him - but he won a premiership last year so how about we spread around the love :D

Those odds are ridiculous though. Richmond further away from a premiership next year than this year, and their game plan has been exposed.

Yeah I'd have Richmond 7-1, they are getting a bit old now and lost a few fringe players. Usually those exploitable game styles only last 1 year.

Caddy 8-1
Kelly 9-1
Vardy 10-1
Varcoe 10-1
Mitch Brown 20-1
everyone else 50-1
