Apart from all of the above, which I mostly agree with, can I spin it the other way for a second. All previous plans and statements would have assumed a list of reasonable size, they would not have been willing to drop players for his promotion but the lack of available players takes the pressure of all. Do we really believe if another 4-6 went down with injuries that they wouldnt play him because of this pre-stated approach.
So, now, if its handled correctly, everyone would accept that GFC have been backed into a corner with the injuries, they would acknowledge that he is underprepared, NA23 could be less pressured because he is not coming in for himself or with any fantastic form in the V's that hed be expected to reproduce, its more about him helping out the club. It could be a chance to break the ice and get the dreaded debut out of the way
People around the club would not expect him to perform to a high level given his form, but the media can be a nasty bunch and if he puts itn a shocker first up, can you imagine the attention he will get from the Media? It would be Saturdays back page 'Son of god not up to big league'. I could just see that on the back page of The Hun. Bast@rds.
Based on my observations of the kid and from what GAJ said about him in his interview with the 'Womens Weekly' (yes i purchased it, but it was solely for the GAJ article). GAJ states that he does take things to heart and is not as emotionally stable as he is. If the media did their usual thing and got on his back strait away, it might be enough for him to walk away from the game totally... After all the work the GFC have done to get him on the list, it could be a huge mistake, espicially considering that he would more than likely play in the back line as a third tall. Could you imagine what Sammy Hamill would do to him in his first game? I dont think Nathan is up to the physical presence of such a large expirenced and smart footballer.
I would love to see him make his Debut, however i think it would be best done by naming him as an emergency and making him a late inclusion for an interstate trip. A trip to Subiaco, Gabba or even AAMI would be the perfect time to unleast the next YEEEABLETT!.
It is hard place that Geelong are left in, if they did the above, they would be seen to be 'playing favourites' which may not go down well with other players. GFC are faced with a really tough one.
After all this, i will respect what ever decision the club makes, they are fully aware of what Nathan's current situation is and will make the right decision!
What does everyone else think? Am i on the right track or talking $h!t?
