Incorrect. Continual delays and downgrading of "forecasts" have been a mainstay of the NBN project since inception. Fibre rollout is still occurring.

The forecasts were a joke, and so is the financial modelling based on these.

The NBN is a complex Government-owned, ubiquitous monopoly wholesale broadband network, connecting Earth's least populated continent, on a very tight business plan, that is running about as far behind schedule as a normal house renovation – that is, it's more or less on track.

The change that matters with the change of government is allowing Telstra not to migrate all of its customers to the NBN, and allowing firms like TPG Telecom to connect the most profitable parts of the cities to its own wholesale fibre networks.

What matters is whether it's a wholesale monopoly. If it's not, best to cancel it now while we still can.

Infrastructure competition will piss the taxpayers money down the drain.

This is a great satirical post.
Or something else.

In answer to your question; Circa 10% of agricultural land and based solely on discussion with property investors 10-15% of inner city property

If you live in Australia, no.

If you live in the UK, British Telecom are rolling out FTTC now, so yes.

The cost per connection in the UK is a small fraction of what it is in Australia. Further other operators are rolling it out as well. There is no NBN, none is required.

from Jroos link

"Government is investing £680 million to ensure the UK has the best superfast broadband in Europe by 2015 and will also work with mobile operators, local government and other interested parties to consider ways that the planning process might be streamlined to speed up the deployment of mobile infrastructure."

Utterly woeful comparison.

Why should a private company be paid to build something by the government and get to retain complete ownership of it?

Why should the government be involved at all when there is no market failure?

Economic Madness.

In a tightly contested field this would have to be the worst fanboi thread on SRP.

Australia sold its Telecommunications network. And now you are advocating buying it back to give us FTTN?

Economic madness.....

Did the UK government have to (at massive cost) install my connection? No of course it didn't.

No need to be so hard on yourself, Medusala. Either there ^ or here:

They are already paying to have it decommissioned.

They are paying for the use of remediated pipes and pits and for the transfer of fix-line customers not for the copper. The copper is worthless under FTTP but is vital for CFTN.

Can you provide evidence for that figure that isn't Coalition propaganda?

it was a representation by a board member of one of the engineering firms

so I guess you will have to wait and see

The Corporate report shows it's on Budget. I'm guessing it a serious crime to knowingly withhold that sort of information for a Corporation.....

If the major contractors are making those claims, I would assume the NBNCo would be aware too. The question for a corporation "knowingly withholding this sort of information" being a crime is an unusual claim. What criminal law would be breached?

It may be a breach of regulations but that would only be relevant if they are a disclosing entity; which they probably are not.

Just wanted to see where else it had been said other than you claiming it on this board.

Otherwise, it has as much credence as all the "my mate down the pub told me Player X wants out stories" on the draft boards.

A quick search of the NBN ACT would answer your question...

You should call ASIC.
