This is quite off topic but considering the talk about how Brodie Smith was perceived before he was drafted I thought this was interesting. I was just looking at the Combine records, did anybody know that VB holds the 3rd best record for the agility test?
VB is a fine athlete and that wouldn't surprise at all IMO

I just had a thought about the downgrade of pick 10 to 14. Perhaps the deal was based on a bit of good faith in the understanding that Geelong will be more accommodating to us next year? I know it's a long shot, but having a good rapport with other clubs can be come in handy.
When they "accommodate" us by having constant chats to Patty through the season and throwing everything at him!!

Draft hub has him in the range 10-40 so we could get him, but so could Geelong, WCE, Richmond or Freo (presuming he doesn't go at #8 or higher).
He has the potential to be the type of player with the x-factor that puts bums on seats, sells memberships, and gives us a pacey, explosive midfielder we've never had before.

Having said that, I think all indications are we're more likely after one of the KPD's in Goddard, Durdin or Marchbank. So we'll have to be content with watching Cockatoo tear it up for somebody else.

I agree Cockatoo could be that, but we have that right now in Dangerfield :p

That's not discouraging the idea of it, two players with that ability is going to create havok for other teams.

Brenton Payne, Dougal Howard, Tyler Keitel, Jeremy Finlayson, Nicholas Coughlan. Maybe one of these will be around 35. Read up on these guys via Emma Quayle.
I like Logan Austin (KPD) as a late pick who has a great leg and good intercept mark. He is an overage player (19 yrs) so he'll go late. If he doesn't get picked up in national draft, he'll go to GWS as an academy rookie.

Michael Hartley (21 yr, 198cm) mobile KPD looks a good option too as someone who can contribute early rather than waiting 3-4 yrs.

There are a whole heap of talls late in draft as well as early.

Alright. But saying people are in a "tizz" over going from 10 to 14 when you're also saying the gain we make from doing so (47 to 35) is negligible at best...

Sounds like we're doing something just for the sake of being seen to be doing something.
I think what you keep failing to take into account is when Noble said they wouldn't just do it randomly or in any draft. They specifically believe in this particular draft only, it's worth it.

The thing about the talls is where we pick them. I've gone through the KPDs around #14 thinking this is where we have the biggest need. Then you have the pace problem and I've gone through all the outside mids around #14. I would prefer an outside mid like Duggan or an X factor type like Cockatoo at #14 then go for the talls later. I'm gonna have faith in Hartigan and think even Siggins could get a chance next season. Cheney has been included. You have Glass coming in to help these guys develop along with Milburn. Picking a KPD in the second round or even getting a mature age rookie might suffice. I still want us to get Caleb Daniel as well but that may be wishful thinking.

I think you're right RM, if we were going for a KPD we surely would have kept #10 to be sure of getting one of Lever, Goddard, Durdin, or Marchbank. Knightmare has them going at 6, 7, 12 and 23 but they could all be gone by 14.

And Phil Davis rumoured to be returning at the end of 2015.

Don't think so. Uncontracted though.
Well personally I wouldn't want to spend anything to get him back. We spent time developing him. He then took the GWS gravy which, fair enough he found hard to knock back, but spending picks again to have him return here seems ludicrous.

Agreed with all of that and the big issue is that whilst KPD is a definite need, if we pick one, at best he'll be ready to genuinely contribute late in his 2nd/his 3rd year more than likely.

I think you're right RM, if we were going for a KPD we surely would have kept #10 to be sure of getting one of Lever, Goddard, Durdin, or Marchbank. Knightmare has them going at 6, 7, 12 and 23 but they could all be gone by 14.
Whether it's the case or not, if we were after a KPD in the mould of Goddard, Durdin or Marchbank, shifting from 10-14 was the wrong idea. One might fall, but might not too, it's a big risk to take especially when Geelong, Fremantle and possibly Richmond have similar needs.

I suspect we've identified a player predicted to go late teens-twenties and feel he's heavily underrated, similar to Danger and Davis, who it was felt we reached a bit with. I'm not sure a KPD would fit this bill, however I see a bunch of classy/pacy mids who could, along with Reece McKenzie.

What would you like to give up for Davis?
Well if we wanted to stay in the first two rounds this year I'm thinking that Philosophy will apply next year. So maybe a third rounder and player or something along those lines. Now I know our surplus had no value this year so I'm hoping one does next year. Say a Henderson.

I agree with that thinking. By dropping to 14, we're effectively saying that we're after the 4th best KPD (according to Phantoms and those in the know). If we stayed at 10 we'd have the 3rd best (2nd maybe) or a shot at someone like Wright who may be sliding.
If we were seriously after the best KPD in the draft dropping to 14 doesn't make a lot of sense.

Danger's our best contested ball winner and clearance king, but seeing him use his pace more on the outside would be such a boost to our midfield. Seemed like the back and knee injuries robbed him of pace last year.
