I agree with that thinking. By dropping to 14, we're effectively saying that we're after the 4th best KPD (according to Phantoms and those in the know). If we stayed at 10 we'd have the 3rd best (2nd maybe) or a shot at someone like Wright who may be sliding.
If we were seriously after the best KPD in the draft dropping to 14 doesn't make a lot of sense.
Whereas, for outside mids (a position we desperately need an A grader in), at 14, there are a lot of options... :p

No chance Wright will slip to us
Certainly seems like there's more of a possibility of that happening over the last few weeks. "If" he does then he wouldn't have been the player we were thinking would be available at number 14 when we dropped 4 spots. Will make for some interesting discussions over the next 2 weeks.

Personally, I'd take him for sure. Tex isn't going to hang around forever, and apart from him and Jerker there's not much else coming up through the ranks. Wright's the forward/ruckman we've been craving since Tipscum left.

"Adelaide could find it hard to pass up Wright at pick 14, despite a flushed forward line including newly recruited ex-Hawthorn 203cm forward-ruck Luke Lowden.
We would be stupid to pass on Wright if he slides to us. He fills a major hole in the list as a developing ruck/forward. Sauce/Lowden/Wright all a sudden looks good for rucks that was Sauce/McKernan/Graham this year.
Good tall rucks/forwards are much harder to find then KPD and mids. I would back in the recruiters to target them areas later with our picks.
I wonder he is the player they knew would be there at 14?

I'd take him in a heartbeat, agree we'd be idiots to pass on him.

Bit of a difference with this one though. He is 203cm so not a tweener.
Yeah the problem with Sellar, he was a 195cm ruckman who they were hoping would be an adequate Forward. He was never gonna ruck at afl level.

Wright is the opposite. He is a 203cm forward who can ruck.

I think this is definitely a list need of ours too. If we discount Pods who won't be on the list in 2016, we only have Tex & JJ (who plays more like a 3rd tall).

There are KPDs everywhere in this draft. Oscar Macdonald in the 2nd round if he slides to 35. Then there is a stack of them late in draft. Plus rookie or use a late pick on a mature aged KPD like Michael Hartley or Beard. I'd prefer Hartley at 198cm. It would be good to have a really tall athletic defender with players like Boyd, Patton, Danniher, Wright coming through the system.

This. Lowden has been traded in for this need. Already 6 yrs developed and ready to go. Another ruck in the rookie draft methinks. #14 for mine has to have an immediate impact. An outside type like Duggan, Cockatoo or Menadue.

And more evidence that Bone is a Bonehead? Talks up our improved recent first round selections and doesn't mention Smith and then says the selection of Reilly a "beauty". Well Del Santo would have been a "beauty" not someone who has managed to play 200 games but never nailed a position.

Do me a favour. Take a look at the history of pick 12 and let me know where Reilly sits in that group.

If Wright slipped to 14 I think I'd lose my head. My favourite tall player in this draft. I still can't get the SA v Vic Metro game in June where he tore SA to shreds out of my mind. His ability to scoop the ball out of the ground was unbelievable for a guy who is 203cm.

He is definitely in the Tippett/Daniher mould. If anyone has the James Sellar flag around him it's Sam Durdin. His best games this year have been in the ruck. But at AFL he is to small for this position. Wright destroyed Durdin in the ruck in the SA v Vic Metro games.

With the draft being such a mystery and players swapping in the draft order everyday (minus the top 3) helps to reassure me that when Ogilve stated that outside the top 3-4 picks the next batch of payers to around picks 17-20 are all of similar or equal level of talent.

Also the article states how Freo were very big on Goddard, makes me think that's the reasoning why Geelong were so keen to move up in the draft, not too mention Goddard is from the Falcons.
