Does anyone think we are a chance to use the PSD this year? Walker will go at 75, but could Rendell be looking at saving 59 for the PSD? Could Pfeiffer be a realistic chance to return? This may be a ploy to send him, and the rest of the club, notably Vince, a message. Of course they would be looking at other players as well for 59, but will this draft really run this deep?

I'm probably grasping at straws here.

Have no idea on that one, I would no hesitation re-drafting pfeiffer.

Whether it's in the PSD or as pick 59 in the draft itself, I wonder whether the Crows might use it for Jesse Aish. They didn't want to pick him up under F/S in case they got bid up into having to use too high a pick for him.

The very fact they thought that there could be a bidding up makes me think they rate him worthy of a late pick.

Walkers already on our list. He has nothing to do with the draft as i have understood it

He is on our list yes but we have to 'give' up our last selection pick in the National Draft. Kinda like the formalities for Father / son picks. They know prior to the draft and it is the formality that their name is called for that draft selection.

I'm sorry, I just can't figure out the logic behind this. If we really wanted him then under the F/S bidding system we would at least know what is required to secure him because we would always have the last say. On top of that we would also get to use the NEXT pick on him so if someone said Pick 45 we could have used whatever our pick after that was going to be.

When it comes to draft day if someone wants him they can take him at any time before our pick so there is no logic behind opting out of nominating someone for the F/S bidding process unless they want to rookie list him.

If they were outbid by another for Aish, I'd just let the other club have him. Picking Aish would be just as speculative as picking up N Ablett IMO. Anyway, I'd prefer Pfeiffer every day of the week.

Yeah, I think they're saying its rookie draft or bust for Aish as far as the crows are concerned. They don't think he's good enough to use a DP for him, probably wont, and so they'll hold their breath until the rookie draft in the event he's still there.

They don't want him to go unpicked this year on the chance he becomes a very good player. Too many "told ya so's" to come out of that. But if he gets picked up in the draft then they'll just say they weren't prepared to give up that much for him.

Fair enough, but that was John Reid's explanation on 5AA. :)

You will get Alex Rance at pick 10 if he's still available, trust me.
I'm a Rance fan but I really doubt he'll get past St.Kilda. He's quite creative coming out of the backline but his defensive skills are top notch. Would be an upgrade of Bock or Stevens or whoever is supposed to be holding down CHB on any given week. Truck and Rance would be a fantastic duo to build a backline and a spine around.

thoughts on adam maric at 10? if rioli is gone?
Bit early for him I would say. I'm kind of thinking it's a bit early for Rioli too and if it's too early for Rioli I guess it's too early for my avatar. :(

I've got a little bit of video of Rioli so I'll have a look at that. He looks an exciting prospect but I'm just a little apprehensive about taking a small forward specialist so early. IMO that is what Rioli will always be and since they are generally a fairly hit and miss prospect I'm not so sure about using 10 on him. At least with Maric and Vesz I think they will have more flexibility - Maric will learn it while Vesz has already played more in other positions. I include him on this because I see these three as the best 'small forward' options.

Maric is a brilliant kick of the footy and has amazing goal sense. I don't think there'll be an in between with him. I see him as either being a superstar or a flop and this might be too much of a risk to see him taken really early - especially since I'm thinking we'll go for a safe option with our first pick (which would probably rule out all three). If one of Rioli, Veszpremi or Maric is still there for our second pick then we should be all over that but I'm not sure the club will be looking that way with Pick 10.

By the way, there's a couple of others later on so all is not lost if we don't take one of those three with 10 and they're all gone by 27. I really like Ashley Hockey and he's a midfielder/small forward with good skills on both sides likely to be around in the third.

Agree with what you've said, but the upside to not taking someone father son is you have a better idea of what will be available at pick #59 or whatever it is. You might have someone in mind rated a fair bit higher that you think is a chance of being available.

Very good point. This way we're not committed to using a pick on him, we can just suss it out and if he's best available then we'll have a dip.

lol if he makes it to pick 10 trust me he will go to crows.
I would be pretty upset if thats the case. The history is not kind to talls taken in the first round after pick 5 and its less kind to key defenders taken in first round!

I wouldn't be happy. I am secretly hoping for Brad Ebert to slide.

You'd think with the amount of hype over the selwood brother quads you'd expect Scott to go in the top 20.

Yeah, around that mark. He'll be more like Adam and Troy - good AFL players. Not like Joel - a star.

Probably between 15-25 for Scott. He's a pretty gutsy sort of player and has a bit of pace. More of a running HBF than a true midfielder IMO.

Heard an Interesting comment from a crows insider today - Supposedly they rated Taylor somewhere in the top 15 draft prospects and were always going to put him on the primary list.

And he's absolutely rapt to be coming down here!

we always get this from the club - "we rated all our selections in the top 20 in the draft...blah blah blah":)

Agree with your comments re Maric and Veszpremi, but don't you think it is "safer" to a degree for our progression and structure to take the best possible talent (more importantly, the best possible talent in the area we are most deficient in) rather than take the easy option and opt for a safe bet-what you see is what you get-type that may not necessarily be most suited to our needs in the future?

When you say you think we will take the "safe option" with our first pick, are you thinking more along the lines of a Myers/Grimes/Collier/Grant/Gaertner? Just interested to know what direction you think the club will be taking with our first and most important pick.

Its true, there will be other similar small forward types like Hockey/Motlop/Lane/Farmer later in the draft but I would much rather we focus our energy on getting the best available talent in this position as early as possible.. Didak was still raw (albeit highly talented) and for many was considered likely to become either an outstanding hit, or eventual miss, when Collingwood took him at pick 3 in 2000. He busted his gut and went through alot of heartache (pardon the pun) at Williamston before settling into Malthouse's plan.

I just think it's time we did take a punt (hell we can't do any worse than we have with our previous highly-rated 1st round selections!) and put faith in our ability to develop a player of this mould - it is after all, what we are screaming out for.
