**** I've put a lot of hours into this game. I just play association mode, lost the semi finals 3-2 to the 76'ers after coming back from 2-0 down (and started at home too). Lost the last game in OT after coming back from 9 points down with a quarter to go. Infuriating. Just started my second season now and lost game 1 to who - the 76'ers.

Great game.

PS+ bump for this thread.

After Sony accidentally put this game up for free for PS+ subscribers for a limited amount of time, I got to it and got downloading and installing it yesterday.

Got started on my player out of the gate (went for a PG so I could get plenty of the pill), not 100% sure if it's the way you want to start back in NBA 2K after a 6 year absence, but am having fun.

Having to get used to a raft of things like player movement and momentum and just realising they're not as pliable in terms of running around the court from what I remember (and also remembering a lot of NBA Live back in the day when that was a decent series).

Absolutely love the amount of detail, customisation and licenses that are going on in the game. From the legend players to the hundreds of clothing items and obviously TV/Sponsorships to make the game all that more immersive and TV presentation like.

Only annoying part is that you have to get those VC's to unlock so much stuff, I really want the Gold Chain shirt. :(

Small forward is where it's at, decided to start a new one recently, SF drafted to Trailblazers, was leading the league in most metric stats then accidentally went next key game and simulated 20+ games :( Now out of rookie of the year running and my shooting % and ppg went down the toilet.

Much like real life I can't PG to save myself, I keep trying it but just can't get into the flow.

Luckily got in when it was free. Been playing it a little bit.

How the hell do you defend properly? I can guard the opposition, but I can never get the ball of them unless they miss the shot and I get the rebound. Do you just have to get your intercept timing right?

For steals it's mainly about timing and the right stats (steals... go figure right :P) but if you just mash the button you'll get called for fouls often. Also a big factor is the oppositions Ball Handling stat, someone with a high ball handing stat is very hard to steal from.

With actually defending though make sure you stay in front of the offensive player at all times and try to push them out wide (don't give up the lane). Also up your on ball defense straight away. This will help immensely, especially as a guard or SF when the superstars are just to quick to handle and will get around you very easily.

Are you player in MyPlayer mode? Your On-ball defense rating starts off really low, so you might be doing better than you think. Otherwise, just ride the defence-assist button and play physical. I find that bumping the player throws them off their line and interrupts their dribble. I don't think I've ever been fouled for it.

Was wondering why I had so many people playing this in my friends list. Have never actually played it online so if people are up for a game I'm down.

Best way to get blocks is to leave them just open on the 3 and sprint in I find. With 25 overall block I'm averaging around 2 a game doing that, issue is dunks are pretty much unblockable.

Depends what position you play. I prefer to play the PF/C spots as you can sag off your opponent a bit and protect the paint. Makes versusing teams with poor outside shooters a breeze. Blocking dunks is all about footwork, get infront of the man then jump at the right time either you block them/foul them or if you are really unlucky it will be a guy who is a posteriser and he will dunk in your face even with the contact.

I've played SF/SG, PF/C and PG/SG, I can nail perimeter D and stop a post move but i get destroyed on dunks and layups. Remember in 2k11 used to be able to stop a dunk now and then, come in latish from the side and deny Lebron on the fast break, in 2k13 I just seem to uselessly do an awkward little jump and at best foul them.

Yeah blocking from the side/behind is pretty much useless unless you have Eraser in which case you can be the next Mutumbo and block everything. You basically have to stop them from getting the opportunity to layup/dunk, though contesting layups against 95% of players will stop them from scoring it depending if you're using simulation or default sliders.

Yeah, luckily for the most part I can block the lane to drive and if I miss the block Aldridge usually cleans up my mess.

Hold L2 down when defending as well.

Really enjoying My Player career at the moment.

9 games in after being taken at pick 14 by the Milwaukee Bucks. Unfortunately I'm stuck in the rotation behind Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings so I'm only getting a paltry 10 minutes gametime each match, at best. So I have to make the most of what I get.

But it's still enjoyable doing so. I'm averaging around 4 points, 3 assists and a rebound a game. So obviously won't be winning any Rookie of the Year awards anytime soon. :p

Not sure whether to fast track my development a bit more by only playing key games or going through and playing every game anyway as I doubt I'll be jumping into NBA 2K14 straight away (although I will definitely be buying it on the back of this).

What sort of development do you get generally speaking year over year if you sim most games?

Development is pretty slow if you only play key games as you lose out on a lot of VC if you skip games. Milestones and endorsments is where the moneys at. I usually aim for about 30 games a season + Playoffs.

I got it free this week as a PS+ member (thanks HBK619 for the tip).

I've never been into sports games and not a big basketball fan, but man does the game look good!

I had a bit of a play yesterday and am pretty much a ******* at present (player rating F in the draft trial game) but look forward to learning how to play and getting into it.

TRADE!!
See if you can get to a team short on PG's ?
My player is a PF at the Houston Rockets. Kevin Martin is just unbelievable in the first quarter (some trait he has), he basically does not miss a 3 lol

Running 2 MP seasons across pc and 360.I always play as PG, i seem to do the best in this position than any other (noticed this trend from 2k11 - onwards).

With Portland on the 360 and slowly working my way up
With Boston on pc it's hard to get a solid run, but am slowly getting better (2, 4, 6, 12 point games at first). Managed to score 28 points against the Wizards, they are going to be my stats building bunnies i think.

I'll never match my MP career from 2K12 i blitzed it magnificently. And again in 2K13 before i had to format my computer, i did really well.

I am and have contemplated a trade, to who, I am not overly sure as my grasp on NBA rosters has wained in the last few years (anyone got any teams lacking in PG's or decent PG's?).

As for my minutes per game, I actually had a look and realised I had it on 5 minute quarters, so my 10 mins per game wasn't that bad for where I am, the most played player gets about 17 minutes all up.

Have bumped it up to 10 mins now, so will see how that changes things.

I'm still enjoying it despite seeing plenty of bench time. I like coming in for some cameo roles, had a great game against Miami prior to my latest, where I scored 6 points and had a whopping 8 assists, also helped in the dying minutes to keep us in front by nailing down a couple of free throws (we won by 3 points - scored the free throws in the bonus).

I got plenty of time to change it up, but don't mind where I am now. Monta Ellis is a beast and helps with trying to get assists and he knocks down just about everything.

Well, the upped quarter length to 10 minutes really helped out.

Already had 10 minutes played by HT. :p

Got 22 minutes for the match (Monta Ellis only got 7 more minutes in comparison) and ended with a respectable 10 points, 6 rebounds (including an offensive rebound too! Stoked with that one being a 6 foot PG), 7 assists and a steal.

Only shot 4-10 from the field, but had 2 3's in there so was pretty happy overall.

Think the 10 minute quarters are the way to go until I get some stronger gametime.

I like how everything scales to the time played in terms of scoring and such. Although the rating was a lot easier to bump up with the extended gametime.
