Im a closet Mavs fan. My best mate goes for them, and you cant help but love Dirk.

The closet Heat fans are sprouting too.

No issue with them if they stay around. But don't just pop in because they are in the Finals. Put some effort in during the Regular season. The only Mavs fans around mid season were Funky, and probably BEEG.

I must say have not written much this season compared to last because most people will say we dont win finals where overrated which I was sick of hearing I think alot of people are passing for Mavs fans because they hate the heat so much I'm happy to have them on board to overcome the dark side

yeah the slagging off of posters who aren't writing in every thread after every game would be a factor in keeping people away i reckon, this board is pretty clicky

and when someone does write in they are a band wagon supporter,

big deal even if they are, always good to just talk ball with people with enthusiasm

First time poster. Dont follow much NBA, but "understand" it a lot more after NBA2K11. (Piston fan btw)

i wouldnt mind watching a game, but have no Foxtel(or One HD). Do people stream the games on the net, and is it reliable? Do all the games start at 10am/11am. Cheers.

it really is eye opening hearing about how video games and even fantasy teams have educated people to sport

give me a break. the ones that get called out for being bandwagoners are the guys that suddenly appear after a great playoff win by "their" team and start celebrating.

big deal even if they are, always good to just talk ball with people with enthusiasm

if they were talking ball no-one would say a word. but usually the contributions are little more than "I knew we could do it, come on Team A!".

nah, people probably dont know about this board which is why numbers arent huge.

good point. we all started somewhere. i think kids today have a leg up with the internet, fantasy games, stats and readily available videos.

to the new poster, hope you build on your knowledge here. welcome aboard

Just watched the game, great win.

I've always been a big fan of [insert winning team here].

Few Damon-style bullet points:

  • So-so game from Dirk for 3 and half quarters...his passing was good off the dribble but poor when stationary. Still, he came through at the end and that's what matters (yes, I did do a fist-pump when he hit that 3, followed by a face-palm when Dallas left Chalmers open for the replying triple).
  • Weird career for Shawn Marion, from his Phoenix days has gone from underrated, to so underrated that he became overrated, to irrelevant (Raps & Heat years) and finally back to underrated.
  • Rebounding is crucial and the Mavs are still walking the tightrope with their defensive rebounding. James/Wade/Bosh all with tip-dunks but some of that was a result of mismatches (Kidd on LeBron, Peja on Bosh). But I liked Chandler's activity on the offensive glass and Dirk actually blocked people out in this game.
  • Turnovers are also crucial for the Mavs...Heat are deadly running the break on a turnover, in an unnervingly methodical way.
  • Heat's offense at the end was such a blur I don't really know what happened...LeBron and Wade missing jumpshots, and the Mavs giving Heat a taste of their own medicine...getting stops then getting out on the break.
  • Bosh - played like a Bosh.
  • Jason Terry - Mavs fans jumped on him in this thread but he came up big in the end too. Really important he provides offense because Mavs O goes in the tank when Dirk sits. He'll have a tough time shaking LeBron's D: Dirk/Terry pick & roll was largely ineffective, but the staggered/2-man pick and roll with JET/Dirk/Chandler was a lot better for the Mavs.
  • Peja - lol. Nowhere to hide. I think his +/- was around -50 in this game.
  • Haywood - hopefully he ain't badly injured otherwise Chandler's gonna have to carry a heavy workload...or we'll see a bit more of the "Custodian".
  • Mark Jackson - in vintage form with a couple of long-winded, rambling outros leading into commercial breaks.

tl;dr

[*]Weird career for Shawn Marion, from his Phoenix days has gone from underrated, to so underrated that he became overrated, to irrelevant (Raps & Heat years) and finally back to underrated.

The weird thing about Marion stepping up in these playoffs is that he's arguably the biggest choker in playoff history (at least I can't think of anyone worse). Especially in those series against SA. If he actually played to reg. season level, Phx would have won a couple of rings.

To wit, PER for Season/Playoffs every year he's been in the playoffs :
1999-2000: 17.1/13.8 (-3.3)
2000-2001: 21.0/13.0 (-8.0)
2002-2003: 21.3/16.1 (-5.2)
2004-2005: 21.7/18.5 (-3.2)
2005-2006: 23.6/20.9 (-2.7)
2006-2007: 20.8/18.5 (-2.3)
2009-2010: 14.7/7.9 (-6.8)

Interesting stats. Marion has been huge this year, certainly a big turnaround. Do you have his PER stats for this years playoffs and regular season?

17.0/16.3, which is still a negative, but that's about the norm for most players when going from season to playoffs.

His average drop for other years is -4.5 or thereabouts, which is monstrous. To put it in context, it's roughly like morphing from Paul Pierce into Richard Jefferson, on average.

can you post stoudemires season/playoffs PER? he always plays better in the playoffs

NBA 2k11 is why I'm here.

I started off wanting the Heat to win this series because I thought it'd be funny to see the dark side win and Jason Terry has the most punchable head I've ever seen (couple this with his stupid pulled up socks), but the loveable lug in 41 has won me over again after destroying the OKC (team I'm probably closest to deciding to support).

wow it's amazing how many Dallas fans have come crawling out of the woodwork in the last 5 hours. People i've never even seen on this board are suddenly mad Mavs fans.

I can't say I'll ever feel an emotional connection with any team, so I will always continue to be an impartial observer.

Anyway, a stat I heard reported yesterday.

Since the 2-3-2 finals were introduced in 1985, 11 times the series has been 1-1 and every single time the team winning Game 3 has gone on to win the title.

To continue that record, I tip Miami to win Game 3. Probably better for the series though that the Mavs win.
