NBL 2020/21 Season

Wildcats get it done again, just need to beat the 36ers now in the last game.

Good thing too, if there's one team that needs to win a trophy and get more prize money it's Perth :moustache:

Are Melbourne the best team in the comp?

They had 57 points at 06:17 left in the third. At 06:00 left in the fourth they had 60. So three points in a quarter of basketball.

Wow.

Wow.

Update: They finished with 69, meaning they scored 12 points in over 18 minutes of basketball against the ******* Illawarra Hawks. Amazing.

Two thoughts from the wildcats game.

1. That was one of the most extraordinary collapses at any level of basketball. First 6-7 minutes after half time 36ers just walked the ball up the court and threw it away, rinsed and repeated.

2. The question isn't whether Bryce Cotton should play for the Boomers this year, the question is whether he should start for the Boomers this year. And the answer is yes.

How do people think the Phoenix are going to go? They’re currently in 4th, finished 2nd in the NBL Cup and have barely played any of the bottom sides other than throughout the Cup.

After round 11 they’ll have played 18 games, 5 against Perth, 4 against Adelaide and 3 v United.

Assuming we end up a normal season, they should have some good runs coming up and no more games in Perth!!!

United finished off disappointing, I worry the depth isn’t quite there for a long season, but if they get fit and firing at the business end hopefully they’ll go all the way.

Whilst they have plenty of talent, they seem lacking in someone to regularly hit 30 points. Goulding is getting a bit old to be relied upon.

Very, very well
There's still a ton of basketball to be played. Broekhoff should get up to speed pretty quickly, last I heard Pineau was meant to be close to a return by the end of the cup (ie. now), and Adnam's time in Sykes's absence has been a massive silver lining. Once Sykes returns that team is really going to take some stopping.

Agreed. They have two good PGs now Adnan is established as a viable starter and crunch time guy, will have big guy depth, and in Creek maybe the best player in the comp right now not named Cotton. If Gliddon and Broekhoff can show up most nights and hit a few threes they’ll score 80+ against most teams and will be in the game.

United’s bench is really shaky, when Landale, McCarron and Goulding are off the floor they look poor. If White can get back and Hopson starts finding form they’re dangerous, but they’re top heavy. Perth are the team to beat but heavily reliant on one outstanding player.

The other teams all have glaring weaknesses, can’t say Phoenix have many obvious ones. They might not win it but they’re in it up to their eyeballs.

This is only half true- they are heavily reliant on two outstanding players.

Cotton is consistently excellent, but the real story for Perth this year has been Mooney.

Averages a double double, leads the league in rebounds per game, 12th in the league in points per game, shooting a very tasty .556 FG% and a frankly astonishing .619 3P% at one made a game. Statistically he's the best centre in the league at the moment, and he's the perfect combo player for Cotton- they are the classic big/small pick and roll duo, and Mooney has the shooting touch to wreck teams if they collapse on Cotton when he drives.

The quality of the rest of Perth's first 7 has certainly dropped away this year, but noone could have predicted they would pick up such a high quality big who would perfectly complement cotton's game.

Yeah, Perth are far from certainties this season. There are obvious depth issues here.
Potentially still an import to be added of course, which changes things significantly. But the team as it stands now is not a grand final participant.
