Well, I didn't know it had even started. What publicity.

So far we've had Cairns beat the Dragons (98-92). Catt the main man for Cairns by the looks of it with 21. Worthington and Horvath seem to have done well for South.

Melbourne beat the Spirit (I still can't get over how utterly gay that name is) 112-102. Ere dominating for Melbourne, Matty Knight looks like he was the best for Sydney.

Games to come

Round 1 in 1997 we had a new coach (Phil Smyth) and played Townsville at home = championship

Round 1 in 2008 we had a new coach (Scott Ninnis) and played Townsville at home = championship....well one can only hope.
Wishful thinking i think mate. The Tigers should take out the competition this season with the stars they have. Excited bout the Dragons too, hopefully they will be much more competitive and with Brian Goorjian in charge, might produce some quality play.

Whereas i agree with you regarding the Melbourne Tiger winning it all just remember that the Brian Goorjian lead South East Melbourne Magic side of 1997 was supposed to be a dream team as well and lost the Grand Final to us.

Quite a good valid point there. U still have to play some good ball to win. I believe that if they play anywhere near there best they shouldnt be beaten. Still a long season though, injuries can take a toll. Only 1 round in so we will judge after the halfway point.

Whoooo slow down big fella. Still a long way to go before talking about a GF as there is about 4 or 5 other side good enough to challenge the Tigers.

Tigers Vs South Dragons/Perth/Cairns/New Zealand and the Sixers.....Townville will come in next.

The NBL may be on it knees and dying a slow death but this year there is a lot of good sides running around.

They started with no Schenscher as he appeared a bit underdone and Townsville are a short side (Hinder was their starting centre) so they could afford to play small

Bruce is amazing and will be as big a ROTY as Jawai was last year.
Maher was on fire and hardly looked like missing all night, they gave him far too many open looks and he took every one
Tyndale looked out of his depth early and had 4 points at half time IIRC. He looks like a little kid out there but he has an awesome leap and times his jumps perfectly. He outrebounded Holmes, Schenscher and Ballinger plus whatever Townsville players were there in several occasions. Probably scored 10 of his points in the last but once he settles in could become every bit the Julius we were after. He's even got the ugly shot of his :D.
Holmes had a dirty night. Fumbled and tripped over and was blocked a few times in the first half and didn't really assert himself offensively all night. Still finished with 9 rebounds, so that is never going to change.
The team always lifted the second Ballinger stepped onto the court. He's still our most important player and set the tone early, when we went on a 10-or-so-0 run on the back of 5 points and 2 blocks from him.
Schenscher was nursed into it early and didn't do a hell of a lot. They had no answer for his hook shot and he took it multiple times. Needs to work on his shooting though but got 2 big blocks and was intimidating under the glass.
Davidson was obviously carrying some sort of injury as he was used sparingly all night. With Bruce our no.1 PG, he will probably decrease in numbers this season but will still be handy off the bench.
Feel a bit sorry for Cooper, his defence and blocking were his major selling point in the Sixers, but with Schenscher and Holmes into the team, his role has kind of been taken. Still good to have a defensive presence under the glass though.
Winitana wasn't used overly much and offensively didn't show much but will be handy as a SF backup.
Good to see Hill back into the lineup. Didn't get much time on but always liked him and saw his potential.
Burdon sneaked on in the last few minutes and put in a nice 3.

Great win by the Sixers but were made to look a lot better than we were by Townsville's game.
Rillie was a non event, Williams was off his shot all night, Ellis looked pretty good early but struggled with all the big bodies around him, Hinder did some good things, Tovey didn't make a shot all night, Egan was handy off the bench, Robertson was ok defensively, but Bruce made him look pretty bad.

Oh dear.

We're shit. Short. And shit. Oh, and don't do D.

Not to mention the towel was well and truly thrown in in junk time, and it blew out to what probably wasn't a fair reflection on the game, given we were only 2 down at half time.

We really got blown away in spurts with a few of 3pt barrages. Good perimeter defence it was

I mean, we'll do OK, because we won't get beaten at home much, but wow, last night was bad. Even for a Townsville road performance.

Tovey played probably one of the worst games I've seen from an individual in a long time. He couldn't do anything right.

Schenscher. Well he's big. But he's not particuarly good (to the levels that he's hyped), and was made to look better than he was when he was posting up Daniel Egan for a fair portion of the night. Don't keep your eyes on him, you should be watching Bruce. Will easily win ROTY. Killed us.

Oh and to that idiot women who sat behind me screaming in my ear all night. A big **** off to you! Obviously had NFI about the game, and behaved like she was at a footy game. "Pick up yar players". "Carn Pear!" Complete bogan.

Utterly shit night all round.

Wow, how bad did Perth go in that last quarter?

Very impressive by the Dragons though, they could be a dark horse for the title with Goorjian on board.

How can we be considere a dark horse ? I think most people around are tipping a Tigers V Dragons grand final series, with that talent, and that coach, nothing can stop us, perhaps except the Tigers ...

Its a shame the NBL doesn't draw crowds like it did in the 90's. Hopefully they dont scrap the leaugue next year. They will need to do something special this season to get some intrest up.

tyndale with 30/15... screw julius hodge, this guy is just as good and is the perfect replacement for him.
bruce with an inefficient 20 points and 8 assists.
scenscher 14/7
balls with 21/8

scott ninnis has done well with the recruiting and coaching thus far.

2-0 1st place!

we play the spirit again in 3 days in the first away game... so hopefully we can go 3-0.
