i had a chat with Blair before the game and went to aspley huddles. that man is unbelievable. his philosophy/game plan is simple. he expects everyone to play a role and wasnt afraid to tell anyone (ie sainsbury)if they werent sticking to it. no shouting etc just calm and clear. i wanted to play for him!
he made an interesting observation re brisbane AFL clubs not engaging well with the brisbane 3 community sides. he felt that gws and swans encouraged young developing talent to go to Demons / Syd Uni etc. whereas in Brisbane the 2 AFL clubs actually tried to "hide"(his word) players. he felt that didnt help either the community clubs in aspley redlands and southport or the player themselves.
that is certainly true in the canberra region gws academy kids all encouraged to go to the demons. after all not all players in academies will be drafted.

lastly i noted that aspley had some terrific mature players all around the ground. their voices were fantastic all day. like having 6 or so coaches out on the ground. that exposed demons youth i reckon

What a load of crap - how can Brisbane "hide" players?? I'm pretty sure the kids that do end up at Aspley (eg. Stevenson, Henderson) and Redlands (eg. Bertoli-Simmons, Cameron-Reeves) go to the clubs much better prepared after bing involved on Academy and state U18 programs than what either of those clubs do of developing their own juniors.

"Folks, time to show your skills - it's time to start the NEAFL 2016 footy tipping comp.
No rules really, except that your tips must be in by the bounce of the ball.
No prizes either really, other than bragging rights.
Anyone can enter.
If you miss a week then you get the away team

If you want to discuss varying these rules, or adding more, then I'm happy to engage. But let's agree on the rules early before the season starts.

Come on punters, show us ya tips..............."

Happy to accept the umpires adjudication on this, but in all honesty I am fuming that the NEAFL have now joined the 20th Century by playing a local game on a Friday night and they did not make a big deal out of it - Like this is big news is it not, at least worthy of a story on their to date boring news section of their home page, when I read the above I thought (possibly along with Stud 1 when he reads it) WTF is this about, I then had to have a second look at it as I thought again what the hell is this about, then the penny dropped, they have played this game on a Friday night, how adventurous of the NEAFL, well I am shocked by this, did the NEAFL staff in Sydney have a wedding on today or have they got a horse racing at Randwick ???????

In all honesty if the result was reversed and Uni had defeated the Swans, I still would have gone for the Swans even knowing the score as the Swans are ticking along and Uni although a challenging side for many are not in their (The Swans) class ATM.

My fault not checking the draw but I wish someone at the NEAFL would have put a big bulletin out for us punters, I hope the local supporters in Sydney are not looking for a NEAFL game today as they will be Shyte out of luck, all 50 of them.
 
jack anthony the difference today at Manuka. demons were very competitive all day but couldnt stop him. he marked, kicked worked well all day. he ended up with 6 goals 3 and southport won by 40!
