Banana benders, greetings from Mexico......
who can tell me where we find NEAFL clearances nowadays. In the past they were noted on the Canberra AFL website but not any more.
The stats on the NEAFL site don't have them but I know the CD ones do have them. Must be some copyright issues?

Predictions for upcoming season?

Giants to win the home and away component before surrendering it to the NT Thunder. Better question is whether the Canberra Demons (renamed Eastlake) will get off the bottom of the ladder. With some integration of former Ainslie players I wonder if cultural issues will get in the way.

Probably not far off, GWS clear minor premiers, then r*ped by late season injuries to the firsts, fall in an elimination final

I watched the practice match today SydUni V Eastlake/Canberra.
Many auto-starters missing from Uni and some having auditions so you can't tell much, but it looked to me that Sydney Uni have recruited very well, especially Jackson Potter who was a hot young thing in Sydney footy a few years ago. Look for SydUni to be strong this year.
I don't know so much about the Canberra team but I reckoned that they could easily have beaten SydUni based on respective merits.
The crazy thing was that, stinking hot day, no cooling breezes in Western Sydney, SydUni had a team of 29, Canberra had 23. Canberra started better but faded in the hot afternoon sun, while Uni just kept rolling their 29 through the interchange and into the front seats of the stand where it was cool and shady. Uni won well in the end but I'd like to see the teams matched on a level playing field. My hunch is that Canberra could win - their coach is an impressive young fella and, in the huddle, he and the assistants spoke a whole lot of sense and had obviously planned out the day.
From what I saw of the Lions and Suns last year (and, yes, who cares anyway ???) they might be the wooden spooners this year.

I watched Redlands easily get over the Lions 2's today, with the full complement of Senior Lions coaching staff all there watching on. The Lions had a lot of their highly touted rookies playing also. Worth noting that Redlands were also a long way off their best from the last couple of years with the players they have lost. Will be interesting to see how they go, whether they slide much.

It's funny Pea Nut, last year when I watched the NEAFL Lions, they were thin on numbers because of club injuries - Leigh Harding was the Key Man (and he is one of the coaches and well past it now) and they couldn't even put a full NEAFL team on the paddock, the bench looked like a warzone by three-quarter time.
And now, on the AFL website, we read that the Lions are smashed by injuries already and the season hasn't even started !
Is it all just bad fortune for the club or is there something wrong ?

James Charselworth a FIFO player for Redlands.
Qld hall of fame Clint Watts on the Redlands coaching staff.

Can Dogwarna confirm this ?
A good get if a club has finally pinned Clint Watts down...knows his stuff...charlesworth would be handy in any team

Clint Watts a handy asset, but must step up to plate and take on Senior Coaching in charge. Surely a QAFL club could do with him as Head Coach.

I thought that the great Clint Watts, with his wealth of playing and coaching credentials, IMO would have been ideal for the job that David Lake left at the Siders Doc, was he asking too much $$$$$ for the silver tales role over at Morningside or was he too well qualified for the job, or was he even asked or considered? These are the questions as I thought he was there after the great John Blair retired from the role at Morningside or sort of retired.

If he has been signed by Redlands then he will IMO help make a huge difference to how the Bombers play the game this year - compared to last year!!!!!!!

Any thoughts?

Five Swans have been granted special permission to line up in Saturday’s NEAFL practice match against Sydney University.

George Hewett, Zak Jones, Toby Nankervis, Nic Newman and James Rose have all been approved to play this weekend after interrupted pre-seasons.

Saturday’s clash with Sydney Uni will kick off at 10.30am at Blacktown International Sports Park.

The Swans AFL side next face Collingwood in their season opener at the SCG on Saturday, March 26.

Aspley for the flag this year imo.... have lost some but more then covered that with the recruits ,,, and getting Jed Turner back is yet another positive..

Demons will give a lot of cheek this year. as a "new"club they are well aware they wont win the flag but already are much improved on 2015. Jack Baker Jordy Harper Nick Heyne and Sam Martin can all play. will be a difficult assignment at manuka.

AC, I saw them last weekend vs Sydney Uni and I thought they were good - bit short on numbers but you don't draw too much from pre-season. I wondered how the new group would fit together and it seemed ok from the stand and from the huddle. The coach is an impressive sort of fella.
I hope for the sake of the NEAFL that they can become competitive asap.

Sydney Uni Vs Swans Reserves yesterday. Both sides were probably close to full strength, and Swans had used two top-ups as far as I could tell - as the season gets going and the injury toll mounts, they seem to usually run with 5-6 toppies.
Uni was better staffed than a week ago but were a bit lucky to stay as close as they did. I wondered whether Swans had another gear available for the harder days to come.
Perhaps they didn't take winning as seriously as they usually would - the score board was not operating and, as coach Rhys Shaw walked off at 3/4 time, he was asking, "Are we winning or not ?" They had about 10 coaches for the day so strategies were obviously the flavour of the day.
As always, Swans were well drilled and I expect them to be front and centre come August.
