did Ok tonight against North I thought. Not his best game, but is a target u there and creates opportunities for others. pretty good kick also, certainly have to leave him in for the rest of 2010 and hope he comes back fitter in 2011 with Willo & our 4 gola debutant Hardingham

Neagle is not much different to Gumby, Zaka, Hooker etc. imo, just needs continuity. Should never had been dropped after rd 1 as apart from his brain explosion, he was very good (considering) on the night against one of the best FB's of all time.

Good to see that even though he had a 'off' night, he still kicked 2 goals and got a hand involved with a few others.

It's his bad days where he has 1 handball that really costs him. Today was definitely a step forward.

On another note, I'd like to commend Stanton on his game tonight, the coaching staff made him be accountable for a man tonight, challenged him and he delivered in spades. Apart from a few turnovers he had a really good game, actually putting his head over the the footy at times too!

Looking better each week :thumbsu:

Yeah I agree completely. Was excellent on the lead, has such good hands (we've known this for awhile), but the thing that's got me is his effort to keep pressure on the rebounding defenders. I still feel our midfielders aren't giving him the best opportunity, but if he can't take the grab, he generally brings it to ground and follows it up.

As I mentioned a long time ago - Neagle can be useful if he averages 2 goals per game because if he spends time around half forward - he has excellent vision and disposal which can set up goals.

Anyone see that 50m kick across the goal face? Was on the boundary on the city side and spotted Alwyn out of the corner of his eye. Pass didnt come off but his vision for FF is extraordinairy.

Saw that, was extraordinary. Was about to have a shot at goal (probably should have) but then cuts across his body and centres the ball.

He was very lucky with his second goal. Definitely played on with 2 opponents on him and received the benefit of the doubt from the field umpire.

Incidently, umpire called it a mark, immediately tackled.... no 50 metre penalty?

From what I can see, Neagle never really overstepped his mark (disregarding North's #18 making it difficult for him to stop) and this is the reason why the umpires called it back. The only reason Neagle got the handball going later on was because all the North players never gave him space to begin with.

Watching the replay, Neagle was superb in a piece of play that helped set up our first goal (Jobe).

Everybody was struggling to get a clean possession, and after going in two or three times, big Jay picks it up, fends off two blokes, runs around another and handballs (on his left) over a pack to a guy in space.

He's a smart footballer, and getting more impressive each week.

I'm not sold on Neagle.

Please elaborate.

Not sold on his ability to time a lead to perfection?
Not sold on his marking ability?
Not sold on his goal kicking ability?
Not sold on his ability to use his size in ground contests?
Not sold on his ability to bring other team mates into play around goals?

I am not saying this guy is going to be the next Plugger or Lloyd, but I think for someone that has only just seemingly had the switch go off in his head, coupled with the poor service from his midfield, he's looking alright. Definitely worth persisting with for the remainder of the season and will hopefully get a good preseason behind him leading into 2011.
