Review Neagle

I can't agree with this, Neagle has an extremely poor turning circle. As I've said before, if the ball hits the ground we're screwed.

He's not as agile as Alwyn Davey, that's for sure, but he has the ability to lead at angles and change direction.

Johns lead in a straight line and a straight line only.

Neagle has kicked or assisted goals, both this year and last. The pick up and handball to Stanton last week was a great example.

He's not as good as Gumby at ground level, but he's not out of the contest either. The fact that he brings the ball to ground and gives our smalls a crack is a plus in itself.

I like the boy.

Make or break for the kid this preseason. Must, must get his body into AFL condition. No more excuses.

Papers should be stamped and he shouldn't be played if he doesn't meet fitness requirements.

We'll, I'm generally patient with guys I feel need a lot of work.

Neagle has always come from a fair way back. Injuries haven't helped his cause but we can't ignore the lack of dedication also.

He has enough talent. The EFC football club must do everything in it's power and then some to get this kid over the line. Mentally, physically whatever. Ramp up spending on player dev.

6th year make or break. I generally give KPP's at least 5 years to show something. His talent and ability is unquestionable.

I tend to agree with you opinion - The most important factor for neagle is how he prepares in the off season - Cant afford to waste half a season again.

He played in round one and was dropped because he got ran down whilst trying to play on when he shouldn't have.

How does that equate to wasting half a season?

Because neagle did another pre-season in the first half of the year - It is well documented fact.:D

And by all reports (and my eyes) he's spent that half a season running his arse off at Bendigo, losing much needed weight.

It could turn out to be the making of him, in my opinion.

I don't know what the latest count is, but as of about 5 weeks ago he had dropped 6kg's.

To do that in season is a pretty bloody good effort.

That's fantastic. Full credit to him. A full pre-season (touch wood) with this lighter body will do wonders for him. He can focus on gaining endurance rather than losing weight.

Jay Neagle has Coutney Johns written all over him. Talented but not willing to put in the work on the track.

I hope this lad can turn it around, but you feel like it's getting close to do or die for him

The comparison isn't even close.

Johns worked incredibly hard.
His work ethic was huge, but he was injury prone and had a really serious injury to begin with. He also wasn't all that talented.

Jay is hugely talented, but came from behind the 8-ball.
Drafted young, only had one year in the TAC Cup, bad habits etc.
He has now turned around his training habits and is working hard.

Plus Johns was an absolute beast - perhaps the biggest AFL footballer I've seen - whereas you couldn't tell Neagle had either lifted a weight or was a professional athlete from looking at him.

Not a knock on him, as some of the greatest forwards in Lockett and Dunstall were similar. All three have the ability to ragdoll opponents, too.

I think I would take more pleasure in big Jay making the grade then any other player on the list

More bullshit.

It's getting close to do or die for a lot of players on our list.. a host of which have had far more opportunity than Jay.

Damn straight. :thumbsu:

So does Jay and this is where the confidence factor kicks in. IMO all it would take is one outstanding performance and this guy would be playing a foot taller.
