Review Neagle

Would rather keep the structure of 7 talls - Carlisle doesnt have too do much but play his role in the team.

I still have nightmares about the Sydney game where we went in one tall short which was magnified by Hille's injury - It cost us the game.

100% right going in to small has cost us a couple times this year IMO I'd bring bellcambers in first and have Ryder in at chf and if that doesn't happen carlisle

Only problem is that the 7 talls is 5 talls and 2 ruck, not 4 talls and 3 rucks.

Listening to G'OD on sen, he says if Winders gets through he's in, otherwise we'll have to find someone else to replace Gumby.

Sounds like they're planning only one forced change.

I really liked what i saw of Carlisle against Willy and would love to see him get a crack for the next game or four just to give him a taste.
Also especially against Carlton because they will have to allocate someone tall for him, which will at very least relieve pressure by limiting the options they have for the other forwards.

Neagle played high (not stoned) 90% of the time in the last 2 games and in particular against the saints was looking better and better, so i'd do that again, with Carlisle and Hard on rotating (depending on opponent), and obviously Ryder & Hille giving a chop out.

On another note, hopefully someone can help me settle a bet....

i can't find the stats anywhere but does anyone know how many vfl games Neagle played last year, and how many the year before??

If anyone has a link/source for proof that would be even better!!:thumbsu:

Long way to go.

Handy when up the field, but poor in our forward 50. Looks slow, lethargic when his opponent keeps him moving.

Hardingham excites me more in his 3 games than Neagle's entire career thus far.

Very worrying watching him miss those two set shots. Needs to have kicking as a weapon to be a viable option.

Mentioned last week that poor endurance is holding Neagle back and this exacerbated by playing as a high forward.

Hope he can build up his tank - But this is not guaranteed.

No way! In what possible way could you call him a "Gun"?
His way off preforming on the big stage: Provides no defensive pressure in the 50, his slow off the mark, clearly can't kick! The one save in grace he has is his a big body and can take a mark OK.

His basically a shit version of cloke.

People say his not fit enough, not enough endurance. Well drop him and give someone with a bigger tank a shot.

I'm not saying we give up on him, just give him a good preseason to get his body and kicking right.

Wasn't he meant to be doing heaps of running this pre-season to get himself more fit? What happened to that?

Running down to the local Dominos? Seriously, needs a hard-assed personal trainer over summer who will work him hard outside the club environment; maybe Lloydy could come back and mentor him (after Knights has moved on?)?

Firstly, granted his kicking for goal over the past 3 weeks has been off, but his kicking at goal is actually one of his strengths. Look further back than 3 games when decided whether he can kick or not. In 26 games he's kicked 39.17 (of which 9.8 have come this season), and he's kicked 19.4 in 2009, 10.5 in 2008 and the 1.0 in 1 game in 2007. Maybe it's just me but this leads me to believe he actually CAN kick.

Secondly, he is not Alwyn Davey. How does Fevola rate in the defensive pressure stakes? Neagle's actually not that bad below his knees for a big lad.

But nevermind that, lets play the other full forward we have kicking around in Bendigo. Oh wait... there isn't one. You guys are too fickle... if he kicked bags of 4 and 5 instead you'd be here waxing lyrical.

He has huge talent. Knighta just needs to keep him on the park in the same way he kept Gumby on the park this year.

The only thing that will get him to the next level is getting games into him.

He did kick 1 goal on the weekend, remember. It just wasn't paid. I actually thought his defensive pressure was pretty good, and I was taking note. His efforts were definitely there - as much pressure as any other forward in our forward 6.

Too fickle? Your right if he was kicking bags of 4 or 5. I'd definitely be bigging him up. BUT HE DOESN'T, and he simply offers nothing at the moment.
So i say make way for players who are egging to prove themselves.

And as far as not having any other prospects at Bendigo, Michael Still, Jake Carlisle, these are player's that are worth giving a go. We got nothing to lose by experimenting at this stage!

The knocks on him in the past have been his defensive pressure and endurance, but I've actually been impressed by these aspects in his game since his return to the seniors. His defensive pressure set up a couple of goals vs Melbourne and IIRC North/StK. He also presented well in these matches and helped set up a few other goals, including a great gather and handball goal assist to Stanton vs Melbourne.

His kicking... other than the Carlton and WCE matches, is still a strength IMO. He kicked 1.7 in those two matches, but has 8.1 in his other 6 and had 30.9 leading into this season. Those strike rates are up there with Lloyd/Lockett and co.

My biggest concern with his past couple of matches has been that he looks lost trying to play CHF, which he was thrust into the moment Gumby went down. He made numerous weak or hesitant leads up on the wings and was often overtaken by Zaka or Monfries who were leading with much greater conviction and ultimately got the footy. But he has limited experience in that role, and thats fine, as we have many I'd play at CHF ahead of him, and see him as a FF only.

Absolutely, Giggidy.
Who's really surprised that he struggled leading up to CHF? Was working pretty well with Gumby. He's a pocket/FF.

Who has never kicked above 3 goals in a game, pretty sure that goes for Bendigo too?

Might be talented but who gives a shit if he can't perform.

He's been alright since coming back. {I didn't get to see the 3-4 matches before Norf}.
Forward line as a whole seemed to be a bit better spaced out.

I'd like to see him stay until the end of the year before any decision's made.
