Correct, he knew he was getting sacked so he quit. I consider it a sacking.

No doubt he realised it was not going to end well and he probably would have got the chop. I think he also realised he couldn't do anything more with the group and his time was up for him as well. The club needed a fresh start and so did he.

My recollection is that the board announced his position was going to be 'extensively reviewed' before they would consider offering him another contract. So he said I'm not up for this 'review' and told them he wouldn't be wasting anyone's time so he resigned. i.e. he saw the writing on the wall.

Correct weight. They wanted him to apply for his own job, or something of that nature. Shocking stuff.

I consider John Northey to be the best coach we have had in my lifetime, and there's been many to choose from, but Northey's time is long past so he's not an option. So has Neil Daniher's. He had success up to a point, but failed to win a premiership with a list that was certainly capable of winning one. He was deeply flawed as a coach though, being completely incapable of thinking on his feet any making any obviously needed changes during a game. He would make changes at half time when he had a chance to stop and think, but during the heat of battle he did nothing and many matches were lost as a result.
