Comment Alan Stewart:

"As recruiters – and I'm talking for most AFL clubs here – we rated Jacob very highly in the national draft"

ALL 16 CLUBS PASSED ON HIM - YES, ALL CLEARLY RATED HIM IN THE TOP 100.

"When Jacob was there, we were very pleased to get such a talented player in the pre-season draft."

"I think we have surprised the AFL football world with Josh's selection," Stewart admitted.

I THINK HE MIGHT BE PUTTING HIS JONB ON THE LINE ON THIS ONE.

"I don't think it's a gamble at all," Stewart said. "This lad can still play AFL football at 26-years-of-age, he's very fit and professional.

AS OPPOSED TO THOSE 26 YEAR OLD UNPROFESSIONAL SLOBS ON MOST LISTS.

"Jason Akermanis is 26 and has a good chance of reaching the AFL Hall of Fame. Josh Mahoney is 26 and has a good chance of reaching 27"

No need to cast doubt on a fine young player, EW. It will indeed prove to be a wise decision to have picked up the SURGIN' STURGEON!!!

Sixteen clubs, 60 odd picks and they all passed. This has nothing to do with his ability or future - rather, that these goons have no idea what they are doing beyond about the top ten obvious picks. And at 17 years old, neither do I or anyone else. It's a total crap shoot - I'll judge Stewart/Pelchen on Mahoney, on Cochrane, on Pickett, Bishop, CCC, RFK - whether they are right or wrong about a 17yo at pick number 234 is purely luck. Raise the draft age. Run an elite juniors comp. OK, yes. I have been to lunch.
