Who could replace him to improve CB Clearances while also offering Longs outstanding tackling pressure and score involvements ( both in the top 7 in the AFL)?
Nobody (on the list at least), I just want him to return to his early form

Apart from clearances dropping off, he's also starting to run around with a lack of composure and no longer breaking tackles. Might need a reset in the VFL/rest whilst we test out the Mitchell combo in the midfield.
Lack of composure ? - who hit up Jamie for the kick on goal to win the game?
In the dying minutes of the game that was a huge play by Ned. If Jamie kicked it and we won everyone would be lauding Ned’s composure.

Well in the 2 games played together…

Long 15 tackles, 9 score involvements, 1 centre clearance
Mitchell 14 tackles, 12 score involvements, 2 centre clearances

So from this weeks team, clearly Mitchell could replace Long and the team improves.

Fly over looked Mitchell - enough said.

I imagine they will both play, particularly in wet conditions.

overlooked? He was managed - left the training track early so probably a small niggle they wanted to have him sit that one out. Fly has also already said he'll be back.
We’ll see but I think managed was a softening of omitted. His efforts were brave but the pace of the games is now a real issue for Titch.

Eddie used stats responding your stats.

You moved the goal posts because your stats looked redundant in comparison.

Your goal post move was wrong anyway as Mitchell was managed.

Lastly, thank you for proving me right.

I'm dropping long and not bringing in Mitchell. I'd like to see how we go with a quicker midfield. Ned needs a rest and Mitchell had 2 clearances last game and got caught everytime he got the ball. Let the reminiscers reminisce, manic wants to win a flag and if they both miss out in order to achieve premiership success, then so be it

Sorry you have misunderstood my post.

To clarify, I didn’t move any goal posts - I simply pointed out that by Fly overlooking Mitchell ( I don’t believe he was managed), the stats offered by Ed were unpersuasive to Fly, who ultimately preferred Long.
Which was the correct decision in my view.

I've got a team working on stats for who's right and who's wrong in this thread - expect to have interim results available around the time Donald Trump wins the Nobel Peace prize

PS - we're not moving the goal posts during this critical project

Mitchell got 11 tackles and a few clearances last week, a performance people described as deplorable. It wasn't an amazing game but any means, but it was better than what long is producing.

Being part of linking chains in the centre that result in goals is a sign he runs a lot, which is great, but it's hardly as if his usage is helping us score. He is overwhelmingly just handballing to someone with better disposal through the middle.

Isn’t the fact that he’s, firstly getting the ball and then making the right decision to handball to a player who can score or continue the scoring chain - a positive?
So of course his usage is helping us score when it’s part of a scoring chain.

Let’s not forget his I5O pass to Jamie in the dying stages of the game - if a goal had resulted Long would have been celebrated.

Unfortunately, Father time has caught up with Titch - Long is the future and therefore will be preferred IMO.

Important to remember that Mitchel is 2 games back after not playing for over a year, he may need a few more games to see if he’s still got it.

Tricky timing though as we’re at the point of the season we want to start bedding down our finals 22.

Part of that process will be Mitchell playing a few more games before a final decision is made IMO.

Yeah I agree it's possible. Especially if Long regains early season form. But for now he's in our bottom 6 or 7 most weeks.

Mitchell is made for finals footy. Tough contested.

Definitely need him getting more games. If he’s fit, he plays.

Might not be quite the same but he has played 7 VFL games.
I've watched all the VFL Collingwood games this year and they play pretty hard for the entire match.
So not as if he's been playing patty cakes for those 7 matches, so he should have pretty good match fitness.

True - but I’m not buying managed for Mitchell - because if true after 2 games, it suggests issues with his body, which doesn’t help his case.
Has played 9 games including vfl so to have a rest after coming off a long lay off and then the 9 straight games doesn’t seem to unbelievable

That’s true. But he was out for longer than a knee reco, which often takes players a year to find prior form.

Tempting to write him off based on what we’ve seen but I believe they will persist for now.

He’s a pretty big inclusion if able to recapture form after all.
