I think it’s reasonable to be disappointed in a young player going backwards to start a seasonCan believe the BS here - Long turned the game in the third QTR in the Adel final and was superb - and lauded by all. On that day he wasn’t slow, or a poor decision maker, or turnover merchant - he was elite in a clutch game, when it needed someone to stand up.
Now he has 2 poor games and he’s a spud.
You people need to get a grip.
Agree - but the vitriol and invective is completely unwarranted.I think it’s reasonable to be disappointed in a young player going backwards to start a season
Long has been average since the second half of last season. One quarter of footy at the end of last year doesn’t change that. Can believe the BS here - Long turned the game in the third QTR in the Adel final and was superb - and lauded by all. Every player value is measured by his best performances - people are completely ignore this in Long’s case, and forget he was in the AFL Best under 22 squad.Long has been average since the second half of last season. One quarter of footy at the end of last year doesn’t change that.
If the bolded were true we’d still have Tom Mitchell, Mason Cox, Oleg Markov and Will Hoskin-Elliott on the list.Every player value is measured by his best performances - people are completely ignore this in Long’s case, and forget he was in the AFL Best under 22 squad.
He’s down on form it’s as simple as that.
If Long was the same age as the guys you’ve nominated I wouldn’t be defending him.If the bolded were true we’d still have Tom Mitchell, Mason Cox, Oleg Markov and Will Hoskin-Elliott on the list.
As for the AFL Best under 22 squad, it’s not so much that people forget about it and more likely no one actually ever cared.
Long is a player with big strengths and big weaknesses. He’s down on form because his strengths are being nullified and his weaknesses exposed.
Regardless of age players must perform. You seem happy to acceptance underperformance if the number next to their photo is low enough. If Long was the same age as the guys you’ve nominated I wouldn’t be defending him.
You conflate the issue- I’m supporting and offering perspective for Long against the calls that he’s a spud and useless ( paraphrasing), that’s all.Regardless of age players must perform. You seem happy to acceptance underperformance if the number next to their photo is low enough.
Fair enough. I don’t agree with everything negative said about him either. You conflate the issue- I’m supporting and offering perspective for Long against the calls that he’s a spud and useless ( paraphrasing), that’s all.
I understand he’s in poor form, but the vitriol is non sensical.
When you have the discriminatory powers of a potato, everything looks like spud.lol, 1 qtr of good football overrides dozens of shit ones…
Anything to justify the love of a spud.
