they like long due to his size, he gets in the way of opposition and isnt easily pushed off the ball like other mids.
Yes on pure numbers mitchell may look better but for the overall midfield he probably helps release the other damaging players

The advantage of Mitchell is that his handballs actually release other damaging players. Long's .... not for a while. Neither can kick.

Ned has never had AFL disposal skills, this time of year opposition does, no where to hide!

Yet if anyone dared to bring that up in the first 15 rounds they’d get shot down..

Ned needs to stick to his strengths and I don’t think we’ve seen him doing that for a few weeks.

His fierce tackling and his clearance work.

Concerns me taking him into finals. He didn’t handle Brisbane pressure last night. He had a lot of friends. But his decision making is questionable at the best of times. Finals footy requires composure.

I want Ned to play again. I am not sure about this week against Hawthorn, because he might need a rest. But I want to see him against Adelaide in that case.

By that stage, we will have Rambeau back and he, along with JDG, these two will add pace and explosive power to our midfield.

Their presence will serve to highlight what Ned can bring.

Long's disposal was poor against Brisbane because they played with massive pressure for the entire game, which we didn't handle as a team.

Not sure why couldn't - we have to be able to withstand blistering pressure to win a flag.

I think Scodog is right to emphasize his pressure acts as very significant, given how much pressure was a factor in this game.

Others have suggested we go into the Hawthorn game without Ned or Titch. Not sure I can agree with that. It just seems like we could'nt compete at ground level in the ruck contests if we did. Not sure that it would be wise to play JDG as a pure inside mid at this point.

Long is an ok match at a stoppage but once its a live ball Long will smash into the contest.

Neale sat off most contests and was second possession. That killed us.

The issue is that Mitchell wasn’t passing it to people in outside receiving positions enough at all against Richmond

Got to remember it’s his first full season, he’s been asked to do a power of work this year so no surprises he’s had a minor form slump.

Seemingly looks like he’s up for a rest this week, could be the perfect reset heading into September.
