Yeah, it’s all Long’s fault!
Also long need to lose muscle mass in his quads in the off season. It is seriously comprising his running ability, especially when he is running out of a stoppage or receives the ball on the run. You can tell he just looks too heavy below the hip, and needs to lighten up and become more agile.

But yes those grubbers to a contest are an efficient disposal apparently…

Ned's a young player who tries his guts out every week & has been a non stop battering ram for us all year.

Not to mention one of your own players, you're meant to support.
They pick him for a reason, because he provides a different element to the midfield. I doubt they expect him to get 30 every week. But to provide the defensive element the others dont have. Not everyone needs to be elite, or a star, just needs to provide a point of difference from what else we have.
He's doing what they need of him, end of story.

Exactly. Posters on here criticise players for not doing what Ned does. And then criticise Ned for not doing what other players do.
They all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Wouldn't it be great if we had a team full of perfect footballers who could do everything equally as well

He should be encouraged to have shots at goal more thou. Josh asked for the ball annoyingly in the first qtr when Ned should have backed himself.
It’s a doubt thing he needs to overcome I’d say. I enjoy his endeavour.

I know this via a friend of Ned’s.
Occasionally one of us on here get a bit too obsessed about a player - I am guilty of this too (hello Ollie and Ginni) - but maybe it’s time to let go?
The biggest defence one can offer re Ned is the fact that he has played every game this year. That is the decision of the coaches. The guys who know a bit more about team selection than we do.

I see a lot of reality in this. Remember when he came to us how Long deferred to regular players rather than just go for the ball himself. As his confidence in his place grew, he did just that , and now goes at it very hard. It would seem to me that taking shots for goal is another step in the same process of gaining confidence in his ability. I don't have any crystal ball, but the signs seem to suggest to me that he has a lot of improvement in him as he realizes he really does have the ability operate at this level.
Not every player has an ego the size of a house. Some question every thing they do, and need to slowly grow their confidence. I would guess that Ned Long is one of the latter. I don't see anything in his game to warrant the constant carping and calls for delisting.

I don't get it either, some posters are willing to die on that hill and damn what anyone says. It gets very tiring.

Any reasonable person would say that Long has had a break out season this year. He’s not perfect by any means, but he’s made a pretty decent contribution.
