And Cox, and Hosk, and MaCrae - but only this year. Even Shooter was fair game last season.

Basically if you point out Ned Long’s declining form and poor disposal then you’re bagging him. But if you call Mitchell slow and want him delisted it’s constructive criticism.
Thank you.

That’s fair enough your opinion
I think the end is not that far off for Tommy but Long isnt the solution IMO
I’d still prefer we go with Tommy this year
I just can't agree but that's fine. I think they prefer the extra strength that long brings around the contest. Neither are stars though

He wasn’t. He was calling out the poster bagging Ned…
The difference between Ned and Titch is that Ned is a work in progress, whilst Titch is a fully mature player with minimal upside.
This is not a criticism of Titch - he was great for us in 2023, but his remaining time is limited, and his output has been severely curtailed by injury.
Who would we keep longer term?
Obviously Ned.

He's always been that way feeding the ball out though. It's his job to get dirty, absorb contact and feed the ball out.

Yep and Tom isn't looking capable of doing that job to a high standard at AFL level anymore. And he has to do that to a really high standard as his pace is an issue when defending transition and his ball use is ineffective when he gets it on the outside. He doesn't have the step to get his hands on it in close as often as he used to, nor the step to get it away effectively when he does get it. It's the end of a great career.

Why do people keep rebutting this? I'm in agreement, understand the context of the discussion.

What a disrespectful thing to say about a player that dominated a winning grand final for us
My point clearly went over your head then.

I’ll say it more slowly for you. I was responding to a post that said “ there’s a reason hawks got rid of Ned”.

By pointing out they also got rid of Mitchell who won us a flag.

So why should we take Sam Mitchell’s judgement as gospel?

It's more than that. These days they're both role players. Long adds something in that he increases our pressure and heat around the contest. Tom no longer really adds anything.

Ned also can kick it more than 30 metres. Whilst you need to shut your eyes and pray, he at least can clear the congestion and create the chaos ball opportunities if he doesn’t nail the target.

He can also hold firm in a tackle to buy some extra seconds.

The problem is after all this he gives the ball back to the opposition because he lacks the required finesse skills and polish

But it’s ok for posters to bag Mitchell tho right ?

People bag Mitchell relentlessly, mostly those who were scared he’d come back and take over the Turnover Kings spot

They also bag plenty of better players, but Ned has become the new protected species of Bigfooty.

Thou shall not point out Neds very long list of weaknesses!!!

The current question is who would you rather in a cutthroat final.

The player who’s done it before in September or the work in progress who’s failed at every pressure test for the last 8 weeks?

Because based on output in the games they’ve played together, Mitchell is doing better than Ned now.

Thou shalt not single out one player for the failings of the team.
