I think his disposal is relatively fine for the role he plays, my issue is he needs to win more of the ball against the good midfields.

It something I think he can improve over the off season though.
Hee came a long way last off season and whilst progress is never linear I think you’re right that’s the biggest growth area in his game. I don’t think he’s any worse by foot than Dunkley for instance, but Dunkley manages to play defensive roles and pick up his 20 odd ppg on a consistent basis. We also need to remember that 2025 is by far the most footy he’s played in his 4 seasons to date and I think the season got long on him (pardon the pun).

He is a project player requiring time. The games this year is a good sign, the times dropped indicate it ain’t going smoothly. His build gives him a bit more time. I want him to kept and to succeed, just like I wanted Krueger to.
. If you're 6 foot 4 and can run like him you get time. Markov and Frampton have had a decade each because they're physically awesome.

Josh is an interesting one, I’m a little surprised by the talk of his good game as he definitely butchered it a bit and was off the boil. Was also a couple of examples of Nick doing the no look hand pass to him and Josh had gone the opposite way.

But in reference to Ned, Josh has about 150 more credits in the bank.
I agree with you. Josh does have credits in the bank. I should have expanded more in my initial post. He has come on here to pot Ned when we had plenty of poor players on the weekend

Most of Ned's turnovers were when he handballed blindly over his head whilst being tackled. He poor with his disposal at times but it goes with the territory of being an inside mid. On Saturday 62% of his possessions were contested. My issue with Ned is that he doesn't get enough of the ball

A high number of Josh's turnovers on Saturday came from uncontested possessions, when kicking on his left foot. I felt that Josh's turnovers were more negatively impactful against us.

I saw Mark Fraser run. He was no physical specimen.
Different era that was more about contest. Oleg has survived a decade in the AFL without being good at any part of the game - except running. Running like that is a weapon - unfortunately he's not very good at anything else to do with footy.

I have not really understood why Howe and Moore take kick outs when you have Josh Daicos, Nick Daicos and Houston in the team. Makes no sense to me.

Especially given Howe was just returning from injury.
Multiple reasons.

Your best chance of hitting a good target is to take the kick out straight away and catch the other team before they've set up.

You'd prefer to have Howe than those guys deep in defence of the ball comes straight back.

It's a lot of unnecessary running to get someine to run to the goal square to take it and then have to run straight back to where you want them straight afterwards.

Josh does take them often when he's nearby.

Except we used to have Nick Daicos take a heap of kickouts and be the key reason we could transition the ball out of defense.

Plus Josh was taking it a bunch this year so there's no reason Houston shouldn't be taking over those duties. There's really no reason for Moore/Howe to take it. One of them can stand in the pocket and the other can provide a target around 50.

They're on to the Daicos short pass and then run past. It gets covered off So even Nick would just run his measure and go long down the line.

Finals pressure and he goes to water yet again. Absolutely not up to it, playing a team in Adelaide who weren’t finals standard masked

How olds Nick ?
Are you being deliberately provocative comparing Ned Long with Nick Daicos. Seriously. Sorry I just answered my own question.

A lot of players were down if not beaten on Saturday including a lot of experienced players.

maybe we can send him to train with matt rowell over the summer. He seems to know about how to improve skills...

He ended up 7th on the Collingwood leaderboard for AFLCA votes this year.

He broke the club tackle record this season.

His form kept Tom Mitchell out of the side.

He’s a decent chance to finish top 10 in the Copeland.

He’s currently the youngest player on our list getting regular games.

Yeah, he’s got room to improve, and there’s a decent chance he will.

I don’t understand the knocks?

Troll have to wing about something

Congratulations to Ned for receiving the Gavin Brown trophy. What a fantastic season he had.

Can’t wait to see further improvement next season.

Montagna just said on trading day that he doesn’t think Ned long is the long term answer when discussing Oliver
Off the number of games played, I am sure that the club doesn’t either. His blocks of games are second to Naicos only for young players. The club is playing him with serious intent to find out. I am sure that Montagna is playing that microphone with serious intent.

Ned's progress this year has been excellent, and he will have learnt a lot.
He'll have a tailored preseason, including working on his weaknesses, and come back bigger and better next year.
We need to take the same approach with Ed Allan - just play him!
