Im sure you are aware of this website, but take a look at places you may not have considered?

Does where you're working offer certain training in any specialised fields, something like immunisations? Would it be possible to branch out into a different field of nursing? Maybe a school or something might be worth looking at and a great fit for the sort of days/hours structure it sounds like you're after.

My wife's a nurse and she's been with her employer since she graduated, but often talks about branching out, she's done the course for immunisations and it's something that really interests her and possibly something she'd like to pursue down the track. One of her friends moved into school nursing and loves it. I can understand that might not be for everyone, but some people would love it, I imagine.

I'd focus on the positives of your situation. In our case, we talk a bit about whether we might relocate in a couple of years and employment-wise, we wouldn't expect my wife to ever have issues finding a job, no matter where we go.

Seriously, why are people such campaigners? Probably any other activity being given as a reason for not working on the weekends ("I do volunteer work", "I coach junior sport", "I visit my elderly grandparents", "I go to the gym") and anyone would just shrug their shoulders and say "Fair enough, so a solution that revolves around those commitments is what's required if we're trying to help". But because it's religion, it's acceptable to say "Give it away, your beliefs are wrong"? It's disgraceful.

I'm 100% athiest, but this bullshit intolerance (in whatever form) is not on. It's not us against them, no matter what side of the political spectrum you happen to be on. If that's the best contribution you can offer to this subject, maybe take it somewhere else.

Lucky I have a particular poster on ignore, I tired of his immaturity and unkindness some time ago so I can’t read anything he wrote.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments that were actually on topic.

I don’t know actually who to ask for help or advice. I tell people and then they have no advice 😩.

I know I have to make some hard decisions about my life.
Have you looked at booking an appointment with a career advisor? They can be expensive, but maybe it would help you see where you can transfer your skills into other roles. (Not that the health system can afford to lose good nurses - and its not something readily replaced by AI).
Even within nursing, and I'm guessing your strong preference is that way, maybe there are other roles outside hospitals that you haven't conisdered.

You could look after and help kids, so even a school nurse?

You could look after oldies, prob wouldn't even need the carers course with a nurse degree? (Although with all the recent uproar about some of the nursing homes, you prob still would require it)...working in a private one would prob be a better experience too

Maybe a company might need a nurse? We have a nurse on site out our company

Have you looked into aged care? Realise the industry is going through a Royal Commission currently and some of the atrocities of the providers "services" are coming out, but the last place I worked (as corporate, not as a nurse) was for purely in-home aged care.

Nurses are employed full time 76 hour fortnights regardless of home visits and only work Monday to Friday. Agency takes care of the weekends as they are cheaper after factoring in the award for one off services.

And you can also be the school cook and get two paychecks that way, Lunchlady PerthGal.

It's full of bunly goodness!
When did you lose your passion for this job?

Oh no.. thats two independent thought alarms in one day! Willie, remove the coloured chalk from the classroom!

You never marry them.

You just date them and milk them for every cent until you move onto the next one.

Hence why being poor has its advantages.

Nothing like rotting strawberries and off cream in the middle of the night.

Dude dont be a jerk. Some people have faith and let them be.

That would be ok if people of faith let other people be. However most people of faith like Izzy would rather dictate to people how they live their lives and condemn them to hell and blame them for terrible tragedies if they don't.

However most people of faith like Izzy

seriously dude? ur defending that initial post?

fmd just cos Perth Gal is a Christian dont mean shes a douche like Izzy.

pls dont derail the thread. shes facing a real dilemma here.

Hey PG, my advice would to try and brush it off, take the job and do ur best. unfortunately, every big workplace would have someone in a role they didnt earn or deserve. some get exposed and removed but there's plenty more that slip thru the cracks.

dont stress about things beyond ur control. ull get urself even more worked up. give it a go, and if u really can't accept the goings on, then take it as a sign and make a drastic change. ur going nowhere in Perth, its time for a change. perhaps uve been stuck in ur own for bubble too long. Dont be afraid of a fresh start. I reckon ur view of the world would change and ull get a new lease on life. Good Luck!

Little confused about how there are complaints about not being able to do things on the weekend etc, but the job entails shift work. It's kinda part and parcel I'd have thought.

I would look for other work though. But given you're a nurse (I am not sure of your other skills), I would hazard a guess that all work would be shift related.

I've known hundreds if not thousands of people of faith in my life. I'd say roughly 99% of them let me and other people be.

Yeah I work at a Catholic school and am never put out by it.

Never have to read a prayer either- ive been asked once or twice and i politely decline and its fine.
