posted this in a PT forum but keen to see what people here think as you'd have more an idea of what people at clubs are after.

Gday
Am currently doing by Cert III and IV in fitness to be a qualified PT.
Once I'm qualified my plan is to approach local footy clubs and advertise particularly to 15-18 year olds interested in bulking up in the off season.
Seeing as besides a bit of placement here and there with my course I haven't had any real experience would I have luck finding people just based off my qualifications?
Or would it be a better idea to first up to volunteer for a while to get my foot in the door?

Appreciate any responses
Cheers

15-18 year olds have no money, and are difficult to bulk up because they never sit still long enough.

People won't pay you to bulk them up, they will pay you to slim them down. The money is in fat chicks and midlife crisis.

Open up instagram account
Post before pics of yourself
Get down to 7% bodyfat
Spray on a tan
Profit.

Follow the fads but don't build your entire brand around them

Keto
Glutes
Functional strength
Fat loss and muscle gain
Crossfit

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking kids parents might’ve made the investment for them though.

Haha I’m not a fan of the Instagram thing but I will have to get on board for this.

Would you have any other suggestions of places to advertise besides online? Cheers

You advertise all the time, everywhere.

If your school has a gym, you advertise there.

If your parents have friends, you advertise there

If you live near a cake shop, you advertise there.

If your girlfriend has bff's who want buns of steel, you advertise there.

If you're going to stick with the 15-18 footy player plan, I would ring up/email all the junior footy factories Calder Cannons/TAC Cup etc and volunteer to help them.

You'll get valuable experience, and learn the wants and needs of your market. If there's a demand there, you can then print up the cards and apply for the abn.

How many parents are going to pay $100 a week for their kid to do S&C when most aren’t going to be pro athletes?
That and where parents DO have that sort of money they’ll be at private school where they’re probably already doing weights.
To convince them you’ve got a point of difference and are worth the coin you’re going to need a good rep.
Unfortunately Australia just has very little market in the 13-18 bracket for anything strength or gym related when compared to somewhere like the States.

My PT works with one of the local clubs, and has quite a few clients that are TAC level players trying to get the conditioning for high level footy.

My advice - get in with the Mums. Like others have said - middle aged women is where the money is at. Then try & get them to send their kids to you/friends kids that are trying to have a go at footy. Going to clubs is a good start, but most of the seniors/TAC clubs will have someone on their payroll already. I'd ask to volunteer as a shadow to their normal fitness guy, or try & get in as a fitness coach for the women's teams (hint: their sons will play footy too).

Middle aged bald men. Seem to be the only ones using PT...trying to bag their secretary or low level admin thots.

Play to their egos

No I'm retired tall skinny bald, wear Nike shoes, don't mow lawns, do Yoga and a bit of running....but I'd love to get to know one of those yummy mummies that are at my mid morning Yoga classes.

Cheers for the advice, once qualified I'll see if I can get a go volunteering around junior clubs, if I can end up fulfilling a demand at a cost down the track then that's great but I'd be happy to help out for a while and get some experience. In the meantime yeah the middle-aged bracket is probably where the coin is at.

Middle aged anyway. At my gym PT client numbers would be 80% middle aged men and women, 15% younger (under 30) women, 5% younger men.

At my gym, I have noticed that lots of young guys (15-17) seem to be getting PT work. These kids usually are wearing footy stuff, so considering the bayside location, these would be budding AFL kids from local private schools.
