I agree with the consensus that speed is not everything and not even in the top couple of priorities. Fortunately, we have players who are elusive in traffic (Pendles, Dids, Leon, etc. - Sidey looks like the sort too) plus some who can break lines (Thomas, Hooter, Obrie-wan, etc.). This makes up for what we lack in speed.
What we are more in need of is an effective clearance system. We seem to lack a clearance specialist and cohesion between the midfielders and ruck to the point that we are constantly smashed in this area and have to waste a lot of energy compensating. If we could get this sorted, I really think the midfield we have built would look superb.
(Of course a fast, elusive, clearance specialist, who can also kick goals, would be lovely, but he already plays for Carlton.)
