Neeld Gone

Exactly. I'd be sacking the person that hired him in the first place.

Anyways feels like a bandaid on a gunshot wound.

Hire the worst ever performed coach to be the 'performance coach'...

Hire the coach of the last team to mismanage his club into a drugs scandal to manage EFC out of one...

At your lowest spiritual 'point'? Make BJ captain to improve team spirit....

Worried that Joey D seems a bit laconic? Bring in Jake Stringer to drive excellence, hardness and forward line hunger...

What could go wrong?

Neeldy is a prime example of Essendon's homeopathic process of failure. To cure a disease, you 'neeld' more of it. When failing bring in more failure.

I like it.

Pretty sure he was highly rated while he was at Collingwood.
Scape goat IMO as it would be massive to turf a coach after re-signing him so someone had to go

Maybe a myth. Malthouse only recommended Watters and Neeldy for jobs to screw Buckley, not because they were any good.

I think a lot of people on this forum are quick to dig the boots in without understanding the situation of his role and when it commenced. Here are the two key facts:

1. Neeld was hired in 2014 as player development coach (a role he was actually pretty good at) - http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...t/news-story/53ac75da003ed7724e6153c7c0d87815
2. Neelds role as Game Performance Coach only commenced in 2018 (a role he was utterly hopeless at, proven at Melbourne and now Essendon)

For those suggesting he is a scapegoat because he has been at the club for 3 years already and only being sacked now, the facts above should help clear that up. Whoever gave him the promotion from player development to effectively being in charge of our game plan and strategies should also be sacked (it's not Woosha)

Agreed.

Not seen anything to suggest Neeld had the mind to develop an innovative game plan.

Liam Pickering was on the Radio (he is Neeld's Agent/Manager) and was suggesting Neeld was in a Head of Coaching Type Role and that Worsfold had a person who basically took over the Game Day Management (Phil Walsh) at West Coast as well, because it was not one of Worsfold’s strong points. Going by Pickering's take on things; Neeld was offered a role back at Player Development, however Neeld felt this was a step back in what he wants to do in the future which is working in Administration. So Neeld and the Club agreed to a redundancy package. Keeping in mind Pickering could very well be trying to not burn any bridges for his Client or potential future dealings he (Pickering) may have with Essendon.

It seems a weird way to do things (Neeld or not), to have a Head Coach that’s not actually driving the Bus. If Neeld was (emphasis on was) in charge of game day planning, the line Coaches run their section, the Opposition Anaylist analyses the Opposition and Worsfold wants the Players to “work out” what the Club stands for. Then what is Worsfold doing exactly……

Feels like a Scapegoat.
Been at Essendon since the end of 2014. Essendon had a good season 2017, but 8 games in to 2018 and Neeld is given the flick?

Was only a development coach when he started in 2014, He was game performance coach this season, He was a big part of the problem, Plenty of others at fault also to be fair.

Bizarre that an assistant coach is the scape goat. Did he wield so much power?

Neeld's sacking says so much about Essendon and why they are a basket case.

I know his role changed, and now that role is gone? No one to replace him in that role. To be given that role he must of impressed in the other roles he was doing at the club. So why not give him a role that he is known to do well in? Why give him the flick after 8 games when he has impressed over a few years?

He was offered his old role back apparently but it was a demotion and he decided to take the redundancy package.

Essendon making room in thier football department cap to try and get our head coach Caracalla.

Look, I think the Bolton kid is an excellent coach and is the walk up start to be Akela of the CFC/EFC combine. Derek Kickett to be head assistant in what would be, at long last, a quality ethical Club.

So if he was hired as the development coach, many would have to agree that he did a reasonable job at it. At the start of the season many of us thought Essendon would be a reasonable side with some good players on each line. This is particularly true as he inherited the basket case that was Hird's legacy. So why the hell did they move him to this new role when we all have seen how poorly he performed at Melbourne? He seems to have an ability to develop players (Melbourne look reasonable now). Scapegoat for sure.

Sometimes i think AFL clubs have jumped the shark. There are instances of coaches being overruled on recruiting, thus giving them a list clogger who doesn't fit into their plan for the team.

Now we have an instance where the senior coach isnt even in charge of the game plan.

Wtf is going on?

Paul Roo's the other week was quite vocal that Coaches are often overruled by the Sports Science Department on what Players can and can’t do on a training level.

I have heard that. Often goal kicking practice is shortened because the propella heads think its too taxing on the body.

In spite of him.

Following players played under Neeld:

1) Hogan (no senior footy though)
2) Jones (already good)
3) Viney (was close to cant-miss)
4) Gawn (had heaps of non-Neeld time)
5) Kent (give him this one)
6) TMac (wasn't much chop under him)
7) Jetta (see TMac)

He gets a touch of credit for a fringe HFF. He nearly killed our club. He can rot in AFL limbo.

Brad Scott said the other day that on stuff like that, the footy side overrules the sports science, especially goal kicking.
