Oh dear.

I think in time we will look back on that moment as one of the worst moves of all time. By that I mean Neeld putting Moloney offside basically as he walked in the door "18 months ago". We may have needed a hard-nosed coach at the time, but FFS that was a terrible decision by Neeld.

I'm not sure I'd be able to... playing for the club I love, get told I'm useless unless I change my game after winning a BnF and polling 20 Brownlow votes the year before, a club leader and get told I wont be in the leadership group prior to the pre-season.

Sure, Beamer could have reacted differently - not sure I blame him.
 
As much as Neeld's decision to piss Moloney off didnt help us, we were hardly going to be much better off even with him. And if he carries on like this I'm not surprised Neeld didnt like him frankly.
 
Whilst you guys are obviously in the middle of a nightmare, I think you took a really big step towards pulling yourself out of the hole today.

Like him or loathe him, I don't think anyone can deny that everything Neeld touched at Melbourne turned to crap.

Now hopefully you get the typical 'first-up win under a new coach' this week.

Hughes has had a go at us before on Facebook, not directly at Neeld though. No idea why he holds such a grudge.

No it's not just that we would have been better off with him, but Neeld got off on the wrong foot with the playing group and never really recovered from it. He played Sylvia on the flank because Colin is not defensive enough, he sacked Green, Rivers and Davey from leadership positions (rightfully, but not an endearing move), and we could probably add more players like Martin, Gysberts, Cook, Morton who weren't given a fair crack.

Now I'm not saying that those blokes would have been stars under a better coach, because they are all fairly average at best, but I just think it looks like Neeld came in too hard on a group who probably needed some tough love mixed in with guidance to get to the level required.

I wish he blasted the media, and sarcastically congratulated them on getting their man.

Also, most journos hope the press conference isn't too long, so that they can go out and celebrate (since this is what most of them have wanted from day one).

I wonder if David Schwarz will go out and celebrate with them (since Collingwood walloped Melbourne, and Neeld got sacked).
 
I'm so torn, Neeld will be on Footy Classified tonight... I want to hear what he has to say, but I sure as hell don't want to listen to Caro whinge and whine about how we're wrong at life. She will be especially sour because she didn't get word of the story before it broke this morning.

Roos is held up as a premiership coach, who was successful. Why would he soil his legacy to coach Melbourne?

Besides, as Roos showed at Fitzroy, when the going gets tough, he nicks off.

Mark Williams? I thought the knock on Neeld was that he was too negative. Is that the same with Williams? He has clashed with the board when at Port Adelaide, he is the coach of the biggest GF loss in history, a club sponsor wanted him sacked at Port, and you have to wonder why he was overlooked for the coaching job at GWS. He would be great to be brought in as a development coach. As a senior coach, not so sure. He wouldn't give the soft-**** players the kisses and cuddles needed.

On a personal level, his career is pretty much shot and will never senior coach again. Never like to see anyone lose their job, its a horrible feeling.

That being said, performance wise, he was never in it. Decisions both on and off the field have been nothing short of disastrous. We are years behind being competitive and a large portion of that problem lies with the coach. The sooner we can clean out the remaining shit, the better for all.

Light at the end of the tunnel is that changes are coming. PJ has impressed me me and more each time.

Neeld wasn't too negative, Neeld was disrespectful.

The players don't need kisses and cuddles or a hard arse - they need belief.

If Williams could give them belief I'd be happy to have him.

Did us a favour by not doing that as tempting as it would be. If he said something along the lines of 'congrats you got your man' it would be heavily construed as Melbourne being run by the journalists.
