Neeld sacked

Moloney should be more concerned with being dropped from the lions team last weekend , instead of taking pot shots at Neeld.

Any player who blames the coach for their own performances has the wrong attitude. It might be the coaches fault, they might not know what they're doing but as a player you should always take responsibility for your form. To hold a grudge and celebrate the guy getting the sack is absolutely disgraceful. A player like say, Jones would never do this kind of thing.

If i were u guys i would be concerned at some of the things said at that press conference. Things like we are an impediment to the AFL, we are an impediment to other clubs when they play us as home games, we are an impediment to broadcasters.

I would say that THIS "rebuild" period, better work or u guys a going to be hurting.

I hope it does especially for the fans.

Look, it is absolutely in Melb's best interests to talk up gloom and doom. Hardly going to boost their chances of a priority pick if they start sprouting that all is not so bad. Plenty of time for that. Jackson knows what he is doing. Big tick.

Absolutely pathetic from Moloney. No class. No professionalism. No heart. Glad he's gone.

I agree. Many better footballers have been tapped on the shoulder when they had a bit still to give and told their time is up. Just no need for it.

Hughes has had a go at us before on Facebook, not directly at Neeld though. No idea why he holds such a grudge.

The one on Beamer's instergram isn't Hughes who played for Melbourne. And I believe it was Buckley not Hughes who had a go at Connelly on Facebook. Danny Hughes has said nothing but good comments about the club.

Moloney wasn't omitted from Brisbane's side. He has a back injury. Moloney has been one of the Lions' best this season averaging 22 disposals and five tackles a match. In the first ten rounds of the season he was leading the Lions clearances with 54. Easily in the Lions best 22.

Truer than some people realize.

Heck, even the great Michael Tuck was a bit miffed that the Hawks "encouraged" him to retire when he was keen to play another year - and that was after a 17 year career spanning 426 games!

Players aren't always the best judges of how capable their bodies are of holding up. Then again it seems Moloney has been doing alright at Brisbane this year so maybe he has a point. Pretty poor way of making it mind you.

Oh and as for the question of who should take over from Neeld next year, if we happen to win this year's flag you're welcome to Al Clarkson - seriously. I've never really liked him as a person though obviously he's been very successful as our coach.
Not sure he'd be a perfect fit though. Personally I think Eade, Williams or even Ayres would be good choices. Roos doesn't seem interested in coaching now that he has a cushy media gig (reminds me of a certain bloke who hosts a certain popular footy panel show) and Malthouse isn't about to leave Carlton so other than Craig that seems to be the list of proven senior coaches Melbourne will consider.

... I'm confused when did this change from Neeld being sacked to Beamer being a champ/chump?
He was a great player, when the russian was on fire, obviously not that great a bloke if two years later he still carries a grudge and gets a laugh out of a bloke getting the sack.
On the other hand the fact that he still carries a grudge maybe shows that he wishes he was still here?

I'd love to see Clarkson cone in as our new coach... Pretty sure he took the hawks from wooden spooners to premiers in 3 seasons, admittedly they were not as bad as we are this year but what better way to cement yourself as one of the greatest coaches of all time then to turn around a club from possibly the worst season in their history to finals footy, top 4, hell lets go for broke and say premiers

that photo from Moloney left a sour taste in my mouth, got a few friends who know Neeld and from all reports is a really nice bloke, feel really bad for him

That said probably had to happen, now you can just get on with the job, what are your guys thoughts on Choco? Think he would be a very good fit to develop your young list and we over at the tigers board are desperate to keep onto him, has already had a massive impact in the 6 months he has been here.

I don't think Roos will coach?

Neeld wasn't too negative, Neeld was disrespectful.

The players don't need kisses and cuddles or a hard arse - they need belief.

If Williams could give them belief I'd be happy to have him.

No. 186 was direspectful! That day and its repercusions has left a black mark on the club. And I feel it will never be truly gone until every player from that day is gone. If this talk of players calling the shots ie. Walking if Neeld coached on to the rest of the year is true. Then once again its the case of the tail wagging the dog. and we will probably go through this same s**t again in two years time. As far as i'm concerned, Neeld got rid of the right players. And as time has gone on, some of those players have justified those decisions.

Beamer posted this on his instagram...

Classy fella.

But it does indicate that there would be players who disliked (may be an understatement) Neeld.
What a dumb knob! Doesnt even realise the karma bus hit him first!

Yeah, this thread is about Neeld being sacked not why Moloney was or wasn't left out of the team or if he is or isn't a knob.

I understand his comments & others too may be in context, so please keep your comments related to that context.

The timing of the sacking is poor. Not two days ago we had our best performance of the year.

Always feel bad when this happens but I'm not disappointed. We all know its been a complete disaster but the players should be feeling like shit about this too. As for Moloney's comments, even if he has good reason to be dirty on Neeld that shows a complete lack of class. 49 clearances in 90 point wins was nice, but never stood up for us in the hard times imo, certainly not in the last couple of years. Can stay in Brisbane.

wonder what tipped the scales? i mean we just had the week off ect and it is right in between the middle of our break? maybe the commission meeting and Jackson straightening everything up?

The AFL told Jackson to fire him.

I don't give a rat's arse who denies it or how many times they deny it because it's so bloody obvious - Jackson was appointed by the AFL, McLardy was told to resign by the AFL, Neeld was sacked by the AFL and the Melbourne Football Club has now been completely appropriated by the AFL.

Am happy that Neelds sacking was handled with far more integrity than Baileys. To see the CEO and Prez by his side and Mark able to wear the red and blue one final time I was very happy to see. Much more respectful.
It's a shame it ended this way but it did have to end this way. I think Neeld had the right idea to toughen the club up, unfortunately the method of brutality used wasn't the right direction. Neeld will bounce back and I wish him all the best.

A few years ago I would be infuriated and worried about this. But someone had to save the club from itself.
