For the life of me I just don't understand that.

Ben Davis had been on our list for 6 years. Why was he the sub for the last 4 games of 2022 if we were just going to delist him?

If we are gifting games to players like Davis - why not gift them to players like Newchurch, Nankervis, Taylor? Might do the world of good to give those guys a taste of AFL football, similar to what we did with Rory Sloane back in 2009.

Giving Rowe 17 games is just as baffling especially since we played him at the end of the season. Blind Freddy knew exactly the player James Rowe was. What did we hope to learn by playing him after round 10 in 2022?
The sub was probably to do with getting him some extra pay before cutting him. It didn't make any sense from the perspective of winning games but I don't believe that was the club's priority at the end of the year.

If we, as a club, prioritize getting (soon to be delisted) players extra money over future success we may as well as burn the whole thing down.

we very much focussed on winning games all Year, both in the AFL and SANFL. All selection decisions were made to achieve maximum wins/minimise losses.

So those in charge were doing their jobs…

Depends on how much you value developing your contending group over day to day minimisation of losses. I'd hand back a win in 2022 if it gets us 2 extra in 2025. Our coaches wouldn't though. Are they right, most likely not.

I never quite get why someone responds to a completely ridiculous made up theory as though it holds one iota of truth - rather than just calling it out for being nonsense.

Any thoughts?

I know this is the negative thread, but I just want to post a positive.

Look at that, our club are innovators, forward thinkers, trailblazers. To be the only team with double digit finals appearances since 2000 to not have a flag, 12 finals appearances and no flag. Amazing. Brave. It is a great indicator of the unique and unparalleled brilliance of the individuals that have come through the club since 2000.

Are we 3 from the last 10 years?

why bother? There is a core group of whingers and the whole board gets sucked into the spiral. Nobody is happy unless they’ve gotten something to bitch and complain about. Hell, you’ve even turned Kristof to the dark side! 🤣
Re-tasking, renaming, flaming out and going again. They never change in the end.
Happy clapping isn’t the answer but neither is this.
End of the day a rant and rail outsells good vibes.
Boss knows.

You can’t control us and yet you still bitch and moan ;) and you’ve chosen to post in a negative thread, here is a tip, don’t
Who’d want to control you? You are a bit of a prick, negative or not. So fair up to the responder.

Can you think of a more valid reason for why they played Davis when they already knew they were cutting him? Knowing the Adelaide Mediocre Football Club the only thing I can think of is that they were giving him a superannuation gift on the way out the door. If it wasn't that then why play a player who is trash and was being cut weeks later?

It’s a balance though isn’t it - need wins to learn how to win and build self belief to improve further. Also need to do things at times to allow the rest of the team to improve - say potentially play Dawson back further in defence so we have better run and distribution out of the back half that allows our forward half to develop correctly. Even though when backline is better developed you would prefer to play Dawson up the ground

Of course. Davis games as a sub were later in the year. The coaches prioritised two things over who they played in the sub role - full game time for the likes of Taylor, Nank and Pedlar in the Sanfl to develop
And trying to win a Sanfl flag with that younger group. Young players winning a flag - even at a lower level - is fantastic for their development and future club success. Have seen it many times in local leagues

Much much much more likely than trying to give him some extra cash before flicking him.

4 in 11. So 8 in the first half of the period and 4 the other half. The Chappy years are comfortably our worst, a genuine bottom few club over the decade.

Chapman's tenure is an interesting one.

Obviously we had the Tippett scandal (which I honestly think he had no knowledge of) and the camp saga and how poorly it was handled, but there was also the Phil Walsh tragedy which he had to help steer the club through and he was Chairman when we made the GF.

Is it about making the finals consistently or is it about making GFs and winning premierships?

Honestly I think Trigg's tenure as CEO was a far bigger issue for the club, a guy that took over what was the most financially sound club in the league and turned it into a club that was struggling to turn a profit.

An absolute A grade dud.

From memory I am pretty sure that both you and I long before the Tippett saga were calling this guy out as a poor operator

We became a club of mediocrity under both Chapman & Trigg "leadership". Both incompetent & they protected each other.

They wasted plenty of years...

To balance the positivity of my thread.

We wasted a standout year by Tex by not even making finals.
Choking against Sydney

Being too weak to actually drop Sloane to sub on selection night

Sloane starting at opening bounce purely because it was his 250th

Away form

Rankine getting almost no midfield time

Dawson playing defence until he requested move to guts

ROB not getting dropped despite being poor for most games

Murphy continually getting selected.

I’m worried re teams like Essendon being disappointed and getting super fit in off season while we limp to day 1 of pre season with multiple players getting over surgeries etc

I also hope the guys that are fit don’t think they’ve had a successful season and turn up under prepared , they need to compensate for the injured ones and be ready to go

I’d argue there were a few games we ‘choked’ more than the Sydney one (GWS x2, Essendon, Collingwood @ AO)
The Essendon game was my biggest disappointment of year

Come out play well and win that and anything could have happened this year I reckon

But we never looked like it and Essendon aren’t very good

That was day I lost faith in our season
