Just wondering what can you do about negative supporters at the game
I sit on Level 1 and right behind me is a guy who, from the opening bounce (every game), does nothing but bag our team. There is a non stop commentary about everything bad that they do (and of course yesterday there was quite a bit for him to go on about). But he also predicts that this kick will be a turn over or this shot for goal will be a miss, or this run down the field will be cut off by the opposition. It's such a nightmare. We can all see what is happening and don't need to have one of our own bagging us mercilessly. Of course he has his favourites to bag..." Oh is that Gia...get rid of him!" " Gia again ...pack your bags and get out" Higgins, Wood, Cross, Cooney all get their bagging. I sit with a group of ladies and none of us really want to confront him as it is a little intimidating to have that going on right behind you. He doesn't swear but you need ear plugs to block him out. I honestly wonder why he bothers coming to the footy at all.

I hate people like that too.

Usually what happens with me is that at some point of frustration in the match i'll turn around and ask them to shut up cos i am sick of hearing the crap. I guess u have to be willing to wear a punch in the worst case, but best case they will either shut their pie hole - or just move.

It is annoying that u have to do that though.

btw, if that isn't something u are comfortable to do, try sneaking in 250mls of scotch, u will b only too happy to tell that wanka what u think of him then ;)

Good luck although im sure the people around u will stick up for u when u do it!

I have a guy like that too, level one aisle 26. The thing that annoys me is he doesn't ever clap or even smile when we kick a goal or something good happens, everything is negative. He was yelling at Higgins for not chasing, within 10 seconds he caught the guy and got the free kick and all he would say was it was his first tackle for the year

Ha ha you probably sit in front of my Dad... We had to move from Aisle 36 due to a few supporters complaining a few years back. We are now in aisle 34. I had to calm him down yesterday as he was too loud.

He doesn't swear though and to be honest its just passion, we also lead the "Bulldog" cheer vearly every week.

I suggest having a word to the person (hopefully not my Dad) as they generally get lost in there passion and dont release the annoyance to others.

The fact that you are ladies will mean telling him to shut up will have more of an impact. Imagine the pummeling he would cop if he even thought about getting aggressive towards you. Just politely tell him to shut his pie-hole.

I guess I've been lucky because most of my Melbourne trips in the past ten years have been at the start of each season when we all have had high hopes, so there hasn't been much negative barracking. However, last year I was there for our first round clash against the Bombres and after our 55 point loss I did hear a few "The season's over." (Little did they know that they were right!) Whatever would those people have done in the late 70s/early80s? :p

Keep the faith. Live in hope.

Looking forward to the start of the 2013 season. I hope to be there. :footy:

We had a couple behind us who bagged Gia 6 times in the opening 11 minutes and he'd only been near the ball 3 times.

Our supporters are the most pathetic and embarrassing in the league - even worse than Richmond, and that's saying something.
Richmond fans are staunch at east, they rarely waiver in numbers or vocal support.

We can't even muster a cheer or chant outside of appealing for free kicks. Support has disappeared from the idea of being a Dog's fan. We re more like 'attenders.'

i worked that asile, so i know who you were talking about
and how he yelled out, You can do your hair later Higgins get in the game.

I'm in aisle 27 level one and I could hear the loud mouth in aisle 26. It was certainly hard to be positve about the game but some people need to think before they speak. There was also someone bagging Cordy in the last quarter in our area who I told to shut up as it is not his fault that the midfield cannot kick the ball to his advantage.

I wish they could be as vocal when we need encouraging.

It's like here on BF. Some people are glass half empty, some are glass half full. You only hear from the half-empty types after we lose. You seldom hear from them after we win, unless it's to find a few negatives in the win.

I don't like bagging the players at the game but I don't get into the organised cheering and chants much. I prefer to be more spontaneous. Sometimes I join in out of sympathy ... if it's a pathetic attempt to rouse an apathetic crowd.

Anyway on BF you can either flame them or ignore them. You can't easily do that if they are sitting behind you. It was so much easier when standing on the terraces at the Western Oval, you could just sidle away. I suggest you issue a quiet request to tone it down - either out of respect for the club or respect for the others who want to watch - but have a few one-liners ready in case you get some backchat. Their most likely retort is they have paid their money so they can shout whatever they want. Hard to argue with that.

What is it about our supporters? I can't stand it when they bag out our players - that is the job of the opposition.
I sit in aisle 32, behind us we had two women that sat behind us last year who just yelled at Miinson at every opportunity. The lady who sits next to us asked them what it was all about in the end, and one said it was personal. Thank god they have moved.
There are too many supporters who bag out the players, but never clap, cheer or do anything when the players do a good thing - frustrates me as well.

Maybe we should organise a bay of just Big Footy supporters to lead the crowd in cheering loudly booing umpire decisions etc - because we are way to quiet at our games.

That's funny.:D .......and I love to hear the funny comments at a game, but this guy is a total "downer". Anyway I am in Aisle 38....it's amazing that there are so many others.

Love your work, S.O.S. The majority are 'attenders'. Theatregoers we call them. They can hardly muster a clap when we get a goal - forget making a noise.

Bulldog supporters are embarrassing because they are soooo quiet. Especially early. It's like the game doesn't start for many supporters until the 3rd quarter when the noise level gets a tad louder. I got told off last year doing my block in the last quarter by a family in front of me who talk through the first half of the game and politely clap occasionally. One just sits there and looks at her mobile phone all day. I didn't swear, I was just being critical in a tight moment and shouting. I don't sit there any more.

Don't bag people who at least make a noise!!! The players can't hear them, so don't take it so personally (what are ya, a Danyle Pearce type?).

What about our pathetic so called 'cheer squad'? The only passionate supporter amongst them is the fatty Vautin look alike in the front row. He yells his guts out every week, where most of the other clowns just clap the players off after performances like yesterday. "Well done boys", they say. They've got no idea

It can be depressing if people often complain and rarely cheer. But consider this, some of these people probably sit in the members area, pay for seats and buy memberships which is more than thousands of others do who call themselves Bulldogs supporters. And at least they come to the footy and make up the paltry 16,000 that we are getting to games these days. It would be nice if we were all politically correct supporters, but a passion for your club sometimes manifests itself in less than politically correct involvement.

The lack of atmosphere at our home games is deplorable, sure at the moment there isn't much to cheer about, but I wish our supporters would show a bit more passion, instead of clapping monotonously and barely making a yelp. I guess it takes a certain personality type to get fired up at games, but that excuse doesn't account for just how quiet our supporters are collectively. It's a shame that teams that play us don't have to deal with the 'crowd factor' as it's safe to say were the most timid bunch of supporters.

As for negative supporters, like with most, they've a right to express their opinions and it at least shows that they give a damn!

I bet those same people complaining about our team's inconsistency and losses this year will be the same to complain that we didn't tank and get high enough draft picks. For some, they use the footy as their release to be able to shout and get angry. Unfortunately, they don't realise they're ruining it for everyone else around them.

I thought that was what football was all about!!! :p

Missy Maxi and London Bulldog. Yeah I would not be surprised if you are talking about the same bloke. He is not far [ enough] from my seat either.
And yes he is an absolute pain in the A***!
LB, if you are his son, I have a suggestion for you. For everyone's sake, for his birthday, have you ever considered a muzzle.

Unfortunately, this is not a new phenomenon. I remember when I was a little kid at the old Western Oval, there was an old bloke who spent the entire game week in and week out
shouting at least 1,000 times a game: "oh, luck's a fortune".
The first few times it was so silly it was 'almost' funny.
I think by 3/4 time most weeks, somebody had asked him to leave, or threatened if he did not shut the *##* up, they would punch his#**#"n lights out.
But he never seemed to get the message, cause sure enough, there he would be next week, shouting out that same drivel again.

You would think the world could just move on. The face may change, but the inanity does not.

I actually have a real problem with the Dogs cheer squad - but going into in this thread doesn't appear right.

The level of enthusiam in the cheersquad seems to be similar to watching people clap at a game of tennis, doesnt it? o_O

I'm thinking of moving next season. I sit in Aisle 36 and 2 rows directly behind me sit 2 of the most obnoxious piss poor excuses for human beings I've ever came across. I've had a run in with them once but have learnt to just ignore them. It's usually aimed at Gia and when he's close to the boundary they'll stand and yell things like "I hate you Gia, RETIRE" anytime he does something well they'll just down play it and if you dare to cheer something he did well you're mocked.

On Saturday it is close to the last straw for me. Jones goes up for a grab comes down hard and this dick wad yells out "Ooh Jonesy, hope you got concussion!" If I stay in there I know I'm going to jump a row and clock one of them or both.

Sad thing is Gia will retire soon and then they'll start on someone else.
