Looks like Neeld has actually got the job at Melbourne according to Neeld New Dees Coach

Unfortunately they are still going with the idea that Craig will be director of coaching.

What is the role "director of coaching" anyway? Even Collingwood hasn't decided what that is and they invented it two years ago.

Can't we just rename the role we're giving Craig "director of coaching" instead of "assistant coach" and get him?

A lot of clubs seem to be creating a "director of coaching" role these days. What's the benefit of it and should we have one?

There is speculation on the Dees board that Eade has been appointed the Director of Coaching at Melbourne.

tbh I reckon eade has plenty to offer in that role also...knows how to assemble a winning side and play a brand consistently good enough for FINALS footy. Craigs point of difference is the sports science background which lends itself to a more elite preparation and conditioning. For PURE football nous...eade would be difficult to go past in terms of expereinced heads currently looking for work

throw kitchen sink at getting craig for performance manager would be awesome. When does dangerfields contract run out?

Herald sun saying neeld has signed and Craig will likely be his assistant at Melbourne dam

Anyone else sus that the day after bEing bagged for not even being assed to get on the phone and talk to Lyon, the dees have miraculously signed up a coach?

this reeks of the same panic IMO that lead us to sign up Wally and five years of pain because he had a good PowerPoint presentation and we were afraid of losing him to the hawks.

Sad to miss out on Craig, but happy if this is a sign that the culture of softness that has infested the dees is set to continue.

Hmm the article on the herald sun suggests that the Dees made up their mind earlier in the week (well before Lyon's departure to Freo). But hey who knows?????

Then why sit on their backside all week?

Well maybe because once the pies are finished he is free.....no because they pay next week, and you are announcing it tomorrow.

Hmmm, maybe because there is no rush because no other clubs are interested in him......except Adelaide, bulldogs, and possibly the saints, hmmm

Also didn't guru Gary say you needed an experienced coach? My wiki page is having issues, because I'm still struggling to reconfirm the senior gigs Neeld has to fulfill that....but I'm sure it's there because Gary dont lie

Yeah, I must be wrong, everything is sound and perfect

Mark Neeld set to be announced as coach of Melbourne as early as tomorrow.
Does that increase the odds of us securing Neil Craig as fitness/development coach or is that just wishful thinking.

And with minimal time wasted, I find this :(

"And it's set to be a double act at the Demons with former Adelaide coach Neil Craig likely to be Neeld's senior assistant."

I'd say it decreases it. I think Melbourne will only sign an untried coach such a Neeld only if he was backed up by an experienced coach ( Craig the most likely). I don't think they would sign Neeld unless if they were confident of getting a former senior coach as an assistant.

IMO the thinking is flawed though, because they may as well just give the experienced coach the senior role. I can somewhat understand Essendon because Hird is a very marketable face of the club.
