I must admit that the position their offering is different to the one we're offering. Even though Melbourne don't seem quite sure what the position is and making it up on the go. I hope that lack of direction by them will go in our favour.

Though Richmond must like their chances because I haven't heard the club inquiring about other candidates on the event we are not successful for Craig.

Would like to get Craig, but not overly fussed either way. Happy about the way we've been seen to go about it though, wreaks of stability.

At the end of the day it could be a good thing to have someone in the wings that adds a bit of pressure to Dimma in his 3rd year, to get with the program.
But then again it could be a bad thing, since the last thing Dimma needs now is to be looking over his shoulder.
Having said that, if we do get Craig, Dimma then gets put to the test and if he gets through then we picked the right guy for the job, 2 years ago. If he doesnt then we have "a" right guy for the job ready and waiting. ;)

Hopefully it has nothing to do with putting pressure on Dimma. I suspect we are just trying to get access to a highly credentialed athlete manger, who will work alongside Matt Hornsby and play a significant role in the physical development of our young group.

From what I can tell, the job we're offering has nothing to do with football exactly. I imagine if he were to come to Tigerland a part of the decision would be to step away from associated pressures of a football coaching roll. Which is why I'm a little skeptical of the mentor sort of positions other clubs are supposedly offering. Not knocking the guy but it's not like he's bomber Thompson or Malthouse or anything. Having said that, as delighted as I would be to land Neil Craig, Matt Hornsby is doing a fantastic job and landed us the Athlete's Performance partnership.

I lol how clubs are jumping at this director of coaching role solely in belief that it must be the best thing to do because Collingwood are doing it . Collingwood are having massive issues defining the role and have been working on it for 2 years , but Garry Lyon 2 minutes into his job has all the answers. The only real previous sitiation along these lines has been the moving of ex coaches into football manager roles , Connally and Rhodes, and ain't that worked well .
If Craig or any other coach goes to another club , overseeing the current coach my monies on it turning to shit . Craig comes to us I hope he is still working beneath Dimma !

I think this is exactly what is happening. He will be in charge of the fitness side of things and provide a link between the fitness dept and the coaching dept. He will also double up as midfield coach. All being beneath Dimma and doing totally different things to Dimma. I don't understand what a director of coaching is at all? Collingwood should just let Mick leave as it seems like its just going to end in tip-toeing around one another.

I think Director of Coaching is really just a nice way to say baby sitting the head coach and I get the feeling Mark Neeld isn't to keen on the idea.
Hird/Thompson works because Hird has zero experience as a coach, if we need one Dimma is the wrong man for the job but thankfully thats not what we want Craig for.

Maybe announce the signing of Craig and the extension of Hardwick's contract simultaneously

Or we might join in the current trend and get the media back to where its used tobeing - announce the signing of Craig and the sacking of Hardwick simultaneously.
This tigerhead BF board would go into meltdown and Punt Rd will be in gridlock with tv vans and members cars all trying to get in..;)

Would that be because of the signing....or the sacking???

Melbourne have appointed Brian Royal and Geelong Falcons coach Aaron Greaves as new assistant coaches for the 2012 season. They have also posted on their website that Missonis their Elite Performance Manager.

Josh Mahoney has been named as Football Manager as well for Melbourne.
Excellent news

Seems more likely we will get him now. However i still wish he would just announce it shortly. In saying that as someone said maybe he has already told Richmond and they are waiting for the best time to hold the press conference. As if we do it now its smack bang in the middle of the finals if we wait it would be bigger for the club then in 3 weeks then to do it now maybe?

It was during their 'mid week rub' segment and Garry Lyon was actually in the studio. They asked him if Melbourne were still in the hunt and he gave his standard pompous "no comment" response. They did try to speculate the clubs: Melbourne, Richmond, West Coast, Brisbane, and yes they did guess at St Kilda. The problem there is though the team started to talk about was is that apparently St Kilda are 1.5-2million dollars down due to poorly handling Ross Lyon over the past year and a bit. I'm not sure of the details but it was something about the club going into cruise control after 3 grand finals appearances and everything is falling apart from income, club moral (the Seaford move), staff salaries and their actual playing group's salary cap. So as much truth there might be in they have offered a contract to Craig, especially in light of what has happened with Mission leaving, I don't think there would be very much incentive for anyone to go to St Kilda right now.

Don't quote me on the details.. was driving, listening, and stuffing my face with a cheese and vegemite scroll at the same time.
