I always thought that if you replaced "Richard Nixon" in the lyric of Campaigner with "Jeffrey Kennett" it rang true.

Anyway, here's ten more that stand out for me.

Also, the 1971 self titled Crazy Horse album is a cracker as well. Danny Whitten's talent was real.

I'm a little surprised there has been no mention of his work with Buffalo Springfield. The man's been through a torrid time with his health of recent times. We are blessed that he is still with us and producing some fine music.

agreed. As brutally honest of his assessment of his time and events surrounding "tonights the night" I always find the Whitten sung song "Come on Baby Lets Go Down Town" a joyous moment on that record, it is my favourite from time to time. his latest efforts, Prairie Wind has several songs better than most of Harvest and Living With War is among his most powerful stance in his capacity as an artist. Trans yes that was a gutsy move but the man always does what he feels, never followed trends for the sake of a trend.

What are your thoughts on the track "After the Garden" on Living with War? Im quite the fan.

Interesting that song, always felt as if it never belonged on Harvest, and interrupted the flow of the album.

after the garden is a good song from living with war, since it was recorded in 10 days, the an urgent message got of his chest in a most urgent manner.

families is a real emotional song from that album, i could do without america the beautiful.

the restless consumer and shock and awe take me back to the freedom days.

which live album do we all think is the best? Weld rocks like no other but rust never sleeps shows his 2 sides

Got my reserved seating tickets too. Neil Young will be amazing but I'm so excited for My Morning Jacket it feels weird. They're one of my favourite bands in the world and I've been waiting years for them to tour. They'd probably sell out a couple of nights at The Forum if they were doing solo gigs. Neil Young fans who've never heard of My Morning Jacket are going to be blown away. Go and pick up their double live cd "Okonokos" for a taste of what we're in for.

I'll just be seeing Neil live at BDO in Perth, too bad he ain't doing a solo show in Perth. Will be interesting to see the reception he gets.

Alot of people say he would play well known hits, but nothing is well known about a Neil performance until he finishes it.

If he looks at home strumming acoustic fare rest assured he will return with the amps cranked suddenly looking 20 years younger.

I'd expect the same sort of solo show that he is currently performing in Europe, that includes some rocking out!

That song sends shivers down the spine. Not sure what it is about Neil but he really makes you listen. I was listening to the live Weld album and again i got the same feeling. You could just feel the build up with this young bloke with a rifle in his hand. Love that song.
Needle and the Damage Done is another great song. Ah he has many but I think with Neil he can really get to you. Helpless is another off the top of my head. Cinnamon Girl. Cortez the Killer. Hey Hey My My.

The SNL Rocking In The Free World performance is my fave Young clip, absolutely rocks!

Neil was going berserk during the climax of the Beatles "Day In The Life" which he has been performing in Europe, similar to the emotion he often displays during performances of "Tonights The Night" He broke the strings off old black and was hitting in on the stage floor.

I have my ticket for the Melbourne show and will make it back to Perth in time to see him at the BDO also!
There are seven other family members making the trip over from Perth to see him and we are all big My Morning Jacket fans too.
The fact that they are the support band is a huge bonus for us all.

I am so excited at the prospect of seeing Neil finally. I cannot list my fave songs, but my fave albums are

Comes a Time (The first one I heard)
On The Beach
Zuma

I never got into Livin With War - Love the sentiment but have struggled a bit with the musicality of that one. I may have to re visit it now !

I'd love to hear that as well, its probably my favourite Neil young song, but I doubt we'll hear it on this tour. He seems to play it in more intimate venues. Of the songs he probably will play I'm hoping he keeps playing Cowgirl in the Sand as he has been doing on his current tour, I want to hear Cortez and Powderfinger as well.
 
Too many Neil Young tracks to choose from but I can tell you I am looking forward to a live rendition of Cowgirl in the Sand which has been on his set list lately.

Does anyone know how long Neil is likely to get on stage?

If it's the 90 minutes that I have heard then he will probably shorten alot of his performances, making enough room for the few big Harvest tunes then finish with a rocking Cowgirl In The Sand.

This guy played for 2.5 - 3 hours in Europe you would like at least 2 for BDO.

I don't know if he would go for anything of Zuma, Tonights The Night, etc though I sure hope he will.

Rocking In The Free World, Cinnamon Girl, Hey Hey My My and perhaps Like A Hurricane would be the likely rocking candiated he might play with Hey Hey My My being the opener for mine.

He has a double CD called Decade that covers the earlier part of his career. I imagine that he will play quite a bit off that. ( it was triple when on vinyl).
He is so prolific that it is really hard to pick what he will play. He could play 30 great songs that are not on there !

As Jim Docker mentioned, Decade is a good compilation to introduce someone to Neil Young, but really, the quality of his work throughout that period cannot be accurately compiled on a compilation album, even if it happens to be a triple album!

Everything from his self-titled debut in 1969 through to Rust Never Sleeps in 1979 is a must own, imo...
